Host (Paul): Magandang magandang magandang umaga, people! Here’s “What’s your Hot Tea,
Pong?” back at it again with another morning filled with chika! I am Pong Paulines, giving you
these hot issues.
Host: And for today’s segment: What’s your Hot Tea, Philippines! Opo, tama kayo diyan! We
will talk about our own Country. So what’s the hot tea that Philippines have?
Host: In the Philippines, the first case of Covid-19 was reported on January 30, 2020. Since then,
the number of cases has soared to more than 3,000, amidst lockdown and quarantine measures
implemented by the government. In the Philippines, there are challenges in responding to the
pandemic including the shortage of health facilities, health workers, and testing kits.
Host: For these reasons, the number of Covid-19 cases in the Philippines may have been under-
reported, especially during the initial period of the outbreak. Given these factors, forecasting
the spread of Covid-19 in the Philippines is a challenging task.
Host: That’s why here’s Doctor Recide that came from the PGH to explain further about Covid-
19.
Host: How are you, Doc? Nag increase baa ng mga patients?
Doctor: Yes, as time goes by, it increases talaga so we, health workers are in call most of the
time.
Host: Saludo naman talaga ako sainyong frontliners. We are all thankful for everyone’s
hardwork for making the nation safe and find its remedy.
Host: So ayon nga po ano, Philippines we are facing this Pandemic problem almost a year now!
Hindi ba?
Doctor Recide: Tama ka diyan ano, Pong. It’s really scary because the virus may attack you
without you noticing it. There were cases that a human is asymptotic. Mas lalong mahirap!
Host: So Doctor Recide, what can you say or what info you can share to the public about this
deadly Virus that circling across the world? How can this virus attack our respiratory tracks?
Doctor Recide: So there were blood vessels, this is now the time where Covid-19 virus will
enter.
Doctor: Covid 19 is a disease caused by a virus called sars-coV-2. the virus infects the cells along
your airways by attaching to ace-2 and other molecules on the cells. the virus uses ace-2 as a
door to get inside of the cell to make more copies of itself.
Host: It multiplies pala talaga ano? Like cancer that spread throughout your body!
Doctor: Correct! The virus ends the immune system’s reaction to it: inflammation, damages the
air sacs, causing them to scar and stiffen of filled with fluid. This blocks some oxygen from
passing your lungs and your blood stream. As blood oxygen levels fall, you may feel short of
breath. In severe cases, a ventilator or other support may be needed.
Doctor: Kaya most of the patients’ experience difficulty in breathing. Some of them cannot lived
if they don’t have oxygen support. That’s how Covid-19 really affects the respiratory track of
patients.
Host: Oh ayan alam na natin paano nga talaga umaatake ang virus na ito. Thank you, Doctor
Recide for today. We really appreciate you for doing the hard work and letting the nation know
about this virus.
Host: So for the next speaker, we will have the Head of Department Health: Doctor Justine
Coprado! Sa pagbabalik ng What’s your Tea, Pong! Goodmorning again!
Host: So we are back again with another tea! Naguumapaw naman talaga! Today, let’s welcome
the head of department health: Doctor Justine Coprado!
Host: So, Doc. Nowadays, DOH is the one who is on work 24/7 because of this pandemic. Ano
po ang mga naoobserve niyo in today’s cases?
Head: Out of the total 3,660 confirmed cases reported in the Philippines until today, 60% are
male, with the most affected age group is 60-69 years old or (22.4%), 54% of all cases reported
from National Capital Region (NCR), followed by CALABARZON with (7%) and Central Luzon with
the (3.3%).
Host: So how fast or how can this virus be transmitted through every people, Doc?
Head: The rate of spread of Covid-19 depends on the transmission rate and the recovery rate.
The recovery rate is the time until recovery or the time until death. Preliminary studies of the
spread of Covid-19 in the Philippines gives a recovery time of 15 to 18 days, giving us a recovery
rate of 1/18 to 1/15.
Host: Oh so it’s the transmission rate to depend in recovery rate of covid-19 patients?
Head: Yes, tama ka diyan ano, Pong. If the recovery rate is increasing the transmission may
decrease as time goes by.
Head: The quantity grows exponentially, when the rate of change is proportional to that
quantity. For example, in the case of this covid 19, it is when the population of the confirmed
cases comes in with the rate of growth in every year. Dito yung sinasabi mo, Pong na the
tramission rate is depended in recovery rate.
Host: Ganon pala yun, Doc. So it really needed to cure every patient immediately!
Head: But since this virus starts early on 2019, patients with confirmed cases only appears on
2020, we can put 0 for 2019 as its initial population and 530,000 people as per the world health
organization, for those who are infected, we can put it as the last value that we can solve in
between its gap in order to find the rate of change. As solved below from its initial population,
it has a rate of 1318% of growth from 2019.
Host: The rate of spreading the virus is really fast. Nakakatakot. So kamusta naman po ang
recovery rate ng bansa?
Head: Let’s compare the trajectory of total cases in Iran and in the Philippines starting from the
day, when both countries had five cases of Covid-19. It is important to note that Iran did not
impose any quarantine measures on its citizens, instead opting for an approach based on self-
quarantine. The average transmission or infection rate of Covid-19 in Iran during this period is
about 0.4, compared with a transmission rate of 0.3 in the Philippines.
Host: So Philippines and Iran had the virus in the same day?
Host: And the Philippines is more effective when it comes to preventing the cases, am I right,
Doc?
Head: Yes, it demonstrates in part of the effectiveness of imposing a lockdown in Luzon. Within
30 days, the number of cases of Covid-19 in the Philippines was 3,660, compared with 21,638 in
Iran. The lockdown may have reduced the number of cases by 83%.
Head: Yes, so I recommend to secure lockdowns and quarantine protocols across the country
for better recovery rate. Since nowadays, protocols were not held seriously and people starts to
go in and out of their places.
Host: So what can you recommend to advocate safety among the Filipinos, doc?
Head: As a Head of Department of Health, I would like to have a testing facilities or a small tent
in every barangay in case the people who lives in every barangay can get tested immediately
and be cure. No need na pumunta ng hospital since our hospital facilities are lacking and not
enough to accommodate every patient.
Host: So how will branagay health officials will survey the people?
Head: Go through every house and check their health if they do show some symptoms. In this
way, we can decrease transmission rate slowly. I also would like to raise or create an advocacy
or program starting from small communities. Kagaya ng sabi-sabi, everything starts in your
house. Barangay Health officials should inform the safety and basic protocols that should be
observe in New era.
Host: Yes! That’s true! Dapat nagsisimula talaga sa mga bahay natin ang pagiging safe. So what
are these safety protocols that should spread or infuse in people’s knowledge, doc?
Head: The most basic safety is to observe wearing a mask in shared spaces around others, and
stay at least 6 feet apart.
Host: Oo nga ano, doc. People nowadays failed to practice it already.
Head: Yes. This should be observed in everyone because this can decrease the possibility of
transmission. We are one nation, we should help one another, para pugsain ang virus na ito.
Host: Buti naman, people will know na what to do if there are emergencies like these. And we
get to know the plan of Department Health to minimize the cases in our country. Thank you,
Doctor Justin Coprado for coming with us today! May odds be in your favor!
Host: At eto na nga po ano, if you are all curious what are the effect of Pandemic in economy
and tips on how you will recover from the sudden loss of income. Antayin ang pagbabalik ng,
What’s your tea, Pong!
Host: And now we are back! I know this is the most anticipated segment of our talkshow since
most of us are curious, kung pano nga ba bumangon muli. But first of all, here is John Cayabyab
to explain further about the pandemic’s effect on our lives.
Host: Goodmorning sir, great day! Talaga namang ikaw ang pinaka hihintay dito.
Economist: Thank you, actually im very excited also to be here in your talkshow!
Host: Ano ka ba sir, ako lang to! Just kidding so what you will discuss to us sir?
Economist: Ah ayan, I would like to discuss first the effects of pandemic in environment to give
emphasize or raise awareness to everyone that this is been the current situation what we are
having right now.
Host: Oo nga, nakakatakot na talaga. It’s like a domino effect and you can’t do anything but to
watch everything to fall.
Ecomist: Tama ka diyan ano, Pong. So I wanna talk about the Impacts of COVID-19 on the
Environment in terms Air Quality Since the lockdown was placed in practice in several nations,
people made fewer travels. And sectors have been closed down and not permitted to work.
This, in fact, led to a substantial reduction in air pollution, as there was a marked decrease in
nitrous oxide emissions.
Host: Hala totoo ba yun sir? That people can see through the Antipolo view of Pasig clearly?
Economist: Yes totoo yan. In fact even manila bay is clear now dito papasok ang water Quality,
where in, there were no boats on the rivers and lakes, whether they were fishermen or
pleasure ones, the water had cleared up.
Economost: Pero Syempre there are negative effect. The global outbreak of Coronavirus is a
crisis that has been affecting everyone’s lives, as well as the physical world. Countries ordered
lockdowns, establishments forced to close, and people lost their lives or jobs.
Host: This is true, this lockdown has really some yin-yang effects on our lives.
Host: People are now struggling to get back into business because of the current lockdown.
Many establishments reduced their man power. So what can you suggest, sir on how people
will recover from the sudden lost?
Economist: Because of the virus that we're Experiencing right now, it is a must to wear a face
mask when we’re going outside in order to secure our health and the safety of our life. Since
some of us can’t afford to buy a mask because of the unemployment due to the pandemic, we
can make crafts and sew face mask of our own, doing the DIY face mask and also using the arts
of different indigenous people to show our culture.
Host: And actually sell it in online shopping apps right now, right? Because it’s more convenient
and safer.
Economist: Yes, I really recommend that! We can also make a face shield using cardboard and
plastic cover because nowadays we need to be resourceful for our own sake.
Host: Actually this is a great idea to innovate and have an income from these, since Mask and
Face shield are now normalized and usually used by many people! This is a brilliant idea, Sir
John! Thank you, Sir.
Host: At the end all of these issues there are realization we should look further. “The year 2020,
the year of the metal rat will be very lucky” ito ang katagang sinabi nang isang feng shui expert
ekonomiya, pangkalusugan, at maging ari-arian.
Host: Ang taon nato ay nagdulot nang masalimuot na panyayare sa buong mundo nagbigay
takot, panggamba at iba’t ibang emosyon, ngunit kahit ganun pa man mas lalo nito tayong
nilapit sa ating pamilya.
Host: Muli ito si Pong Polines, for What’s your tea, Pong! Magandang magandang umaga muli
at sa uulitin!
