Journal quiz 2 : Quality, Course Objectives and Problem Definition

Introduction:

This 2nd journal will be about the first reading assignment, which is about the quality
and problems definition. The journal is also written for quiz two, which will contain the same
topics as the journal. The reason for writing this journal is to make my understanding of the
quiz material better also to increase my preparation level for the quiz in order to achieve
exceed in the examination. However, this journal will contain the following. First, the
importance of the work quality, and the definition of the problems with an example to clarify it
also compare the real problems versers perceived problems. Finally, when I finish writing
this journal, I expect to be fully prepared for the quiz and have a better understanding of the
content.

Work:

Nowadays, consumers started to realize that quality is the main factor for any
successful product. The customers can judge every product’s quality to determine whether
it’s perfect for them or does not fit them. For example, the work quality can change
depending on what made the products, hands, or machines did it. Another example, the
construction quality for building is essential to confess the customer to purchase. However,
to achieve the best quality for the product, it is important to meet the customer requirements
and take care of the feedback about the product. In the re-engineering process, engineers
should make their products based on customer requirements. Expected requirements, which
are the features that make the product able to do the primary purpose correctly. Next is the
revealed requirements, which means whether the product needs improvements to make it
better or not. The engineers should also continuously improve the product according to the
feedback and try to astonish the customers by adding exciting features to the product.

Furthermore, with making and developing products, usually, there are some problem
appears, and they define in two types. The hidden problems, which require a professional
engineer to detect them after many exams and heavy analysis for the product to make sure
it will work perfectly. The second type is the perceived problems, which can be noticeable for
lots of people, and they think it is the one that should be solved, but as we get deeper into
the problem, we realize that it is not the real one and we have just wasted our time and
effort. However, problems do not happen in work only. Every day we live, we might face a
problem, and the ability to solve it is a fundamental skill that is not easy. For instance, If your
TV did not work, which is a prominent issue, but that does not mean the TV is defective, the
problem might be from the electricity cable all you need is to change it and the TV will work
again.
Discussion:

In conclusion, this journal was about the reading assignments involved in quiz two,
and I am writing this journal to have a better understanding of some complicated concepts.
Like, the difference between the perceived problems and real problems, which one comes
first, and how people usually deal with them. Besides, Writing the journal helped me also to
organize my thoughts and linked them together. Again, I will try to change my viewpoint on
the problems and the methods that I need to use when dealing with them. Finally, I found the
concept of quiz two very helpful, and reflecting on what I learned in my life will help me a lot
with my journey to be a successful engineer.
Presentation of Technical Work Checklist
Evaluation of Yousef Mohammed Mannan ‘s Work Product: Journal Quiz 2
1. Work Evaluated by Yousef Mannan Assessment Symbol/Color Date 2/14/2021
2. Work Evaluated by Assessment Symbol/Color Date
The following Checklist can be used to assess any body of technical work to make sure the work is being presented according
to the expectations of the IE 201 faculty. This Checklist is referred to in all the other Assessment Checklists that you will be
using and, while you may not actually print and fill in this Checklist for all of your work, you will need to at least mentally
complete this Checklist for all of your work

Yes No Expected Features

✓ 1. There is material (i.e., a Context) at the start of the work which marks the beginning of the new work
and orients the reader (i.e., gives the reader some sense of what follows)? This material should
include:
a) tells the reader how this work fits into a bigger problem (e.g., Every successful project in life
should follow certain quality rules and regulations. ),
b) explain why the work will be/was done (e.g., This is a homework assignment on equilibrium or
This work on frame weight will be undertaken to get a better idea about how much this Home
Exercise Machine might weigh; I prepared this memo on our power shortages after last Friday’s
power outage at Unit 67),
c) tells the reader what will be accomplished when the work is done (e.g., After this assignment is
completed I will have shown I know how to do force balances and will be prepared for the quiz or
When this work is completed we will know the frame weight), and
d) tells the reader the important topics to follow and the order the topics are addressed (e.g., This
report first discusses the methodology used, then presents the test results, and ends with a
discussion of the testing)
✓ 2. There are dates and names of the people who did the work on at least the first page of the work
✓ 3. The work looks professional (e.g., the material is readable, font is 12 pt., neat, plenty of white spaces,
figures and plots are numbered and have descriptive titles.)
✓ 4. Based on the Context, the work is what you expected to see

✓ 5. The work is professional and ethical

✓ 6. There is material (i.e., Discussion) at the end of the work, which marks the end of the work and
discusses or reflects on the work done. This end material could discuss:
a) what was learned (e.g., The frame weight was 34 kilograms which is much lighter than any
machine we have found in the stores or This cone surface area of 250 m2 is huge, about a third of
a football field),
b) the process used in working the problem (e.g., I could not work this problem until I realized I
could replace 1 with sin2 + cos2 or Until we simplified the frame, we were not able to get our
model to converge),
c) the correctness of the result (e.g., The answer to this problem is 14.6 m2, which matches the
answer in the back of the book or This weight of 34 kilos, while it seems light, is probably correct;
the model was checked using example problem 4.5 in Shigley), and
d) what will happen next (e.g., Now we can calculate the cost of our device)

Results of Assessment
Presentation of Technical Work
1. M, meets expectations, requires all Yes’s for items 1 to 6
M NI NCE 2. NI, needs improvement, is given if there are any No’s for items 1 to 6
✓ 3. NCE, no credible effort, is given if there is little to no work to be assessed (1 SR-Fault
charged)
