Lesson Plan On Quadratic Functions

The document outlines a demonstration teaching on solving problems involving the maximum value of quadratic functions. The lesson objectives are to name and solve for the maximum value of a quadratic function. Examples of real-world parabolic functions involving shuttlecocks, volleyballs, and kicked balls are presented. Students work in groups on activity sheets involving finding the time and value of maximum height for various quadratic functions modeling projectile motion. The agreement has students find the maximum height of additional quadratic functions and provide two examples of parabolic functions in real life.

D. Development of the Lesson

PROBLEM – SOLVING INVOLVING MAXIMUM VALUE OF A QUADRATIC FUNCTION

Activity. The class is presented a three short videos. For each video, the class will solve the given problem
involving Quadratic Functions

Example 1.

F(t) = - 4t2 + 7t + 2

The path of the hit

shuttle cock is a parabola.
The Quadratic Function for the path of the shuttle cock is
f(t) = -4t2 + 7t + 2.

1. When will the shuttle cock reach the maximum height?

2. What is the maximum height (in meters) of the shuttle cock in flight?

2.
F(t) = -2t2 +11t - 2

The trail of the hit volleyball is a parabola.

1. When will the ball reach the maximum height?

2. What is the maximum height (in feet) of the ball in flight?

3.

F(t) = -6t2+11t+10

The trajectory of the kicked ball form is f(t) = -6t2 + 11t + 10.
1. When will it reach the maximum height?
2. What is the height of the ball in flight?

E. Generalization

What kind of information does the vertex gives us?

F. Evaluation

Group Activity.
