My Neighbours

Prakash Gurung lives in Machhapuchhre Rural Municilpality of Kaski District.


He studies in class four in Baraha Secondary School. His parents are farmers. They
grow millet, maize and other crops in the field. His grandparents are seniors
citizens.

There are many Gurung families in his village. His relatives are grandfather,
grandmother, uncle and aunt. Prakash's uncle and aunt also live in the same village.
His father's siater and brother-in-law live in Dandakharka village. He calls them
Phupu and Phupaju.
His maternal uncle and aunt also live Dandakharka village. He calls Mama
and Maiju. He visits his relatives frequently.
There are several neighbours in his village. The villagers help each other
during festivals and ceremonies. '
Prakash knows the names of his neighbours. Jum Prasad Gurung, Mahesh
Gurung, Tham Bahadur Gurung, Maya Gurung, Til Bahadur Gurung are his
neighbours. They are all seniors to him. So, he respects and addresses them with
relations. He uses the words like grandfather, grandmother, mama, maiju, phupu
phupaju
