Abdullah’s gold

Abdullah was the richest man in town but he didn’t like to use his money to help other people. He saved
his money for himself.

One day, Abdullah used his money to buy a huge lump of gold. Then, he made a hole in the ground near
an old well outside the town. He put the lump of gold in the hole and covered it with some soil.

Every day, Abdullah went to the old well to look at his gold. The people in the town were curious. “Why
does Abdullah like to go to the old well?” they asked.

There was a very cunning man in town. One day, he secretly followed Abdullah to the well. He was very
surprised when he saw the huge lump of gold! He waited for Abdullah to leave, then he took the gold and
ran away.
The next day, when Abdullah went to the old well and found that his gold wasn’t there, he screamed in
anger. Then, he sat next to the wall and cried for a long time. A kind neighbour wanted to make him feel
better. He picked up a big stone from the ground and gave it to Abdullah. The neighbour said, “Why don’t
you imagine that this stone is your gold? You can still come and look at it every day, just like you did
before.”
