7.4 Information Sources
Information Sources (Glossaries)
An information source (also known as a Babylon-Enterprise glossary) is a database table of terms and
information relevant to your work processes and tasks. Information sources are generated from the
systems used in your enterprise, such as CRM and ERP applications.
Babylon-Enterprise also supports the various types of Babylon glossaries, such as monolingual
dictionaries, translation dictionaries and encyclopedias.
The upper section of the sidebar displays a list of the information sources currently delivering results.
Clicking the name of an information source in the sidebar list scrolls the results pane to show the
information being delivered from the selected source.

Managing Information Sources

The Manage Information Sources dialog box presents a list of all sources that have been installed on
the client workstation. Whenever you query a term, Babylon-Enterprise retrieves information from all
the active sources listed in the Manage Information Sources dialog box.
The Manage Information Sources dialog box allows you to add, remove and configure sources for
use.

Active Sources
 When the Active checkbox of an information source is selected, the source is enabled and will be
queried for results.
 When the Active checkbox of an information source is cleared, the source remains in the list of
installed information sources, but will not be queried/return results.

Show Results from Active Sources Only

 When this checkbox is selected, only the Active sources will return results.
 When cleared, additional relevant results from the Babylon information server will also be
delivered if the client is enabled for Internet connectivity and is connected to the online Babylon
information server (BIS).

Order of Results
Babylon-Enterprise performs queries and displays results according to the listed order of the sources
in the Manage Information Sources dialog box.
Information sources that have been downloaded to the client workstation are always listed before
those that are on the server.
Use the Move Up and Move Down buttons in the toolbar to change the order of the information
sources in the list.

phrases.
This option requires a sound card and speakers or headset on your computer.
By default, Babylon-Enterprise uses the English text-to-speech (TTS) engine installed with the
operating system. To hear pronunciation of words in other languages, you must download and install
additional text-to-speech engines.
Add-on TTS engines for 24 different languages are available from Babylon. Some language TTS
engines include more than one voice.

For download and installation support, contact your system administrator.

To change the voice settings, go to the Configuration menu and use the Miscellaneous tab.

To hear the pronunciation of the currently queried term, click the Say It icon next to the
term in the Results pane.
To hear the pronunciation of words or phrases within definitions displayed in the Results
pane, swipe the text with the mouse, right-click to open the menu, and select Say It.

Cross-Translation
Cross-translation is a special type of result, optimized for users who need help writing in a language
other than their own. Cross-translation is available only when both Babylon dictionaries of a language
pair are installed. For example English-to-German and German-to-English:

Whenever you enter a translation query, Babylon-Enterprise normally delivers a definition in the
defined target language, as indicated by the language pair in the information source title bar.
In the cross-translation result, indicated by a language triplet in the information source title, Babylon-
Enterprise displays translations in the target language as well as reverse translations in the source
language.
