International Priority Scholarship (IPS)

Brief description:
International Priority Scholarship, also known as IPS, is a Postgraduate (Master)
degree scholarship offered by Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. IPS provides
the opportunities for Moslem youths graduated from undergraduate in moslem
developing countries.

Level/Field(s) of study:
All Postgraduate Program offered in Bahasa Indonesia except Magister Pendidikan
Bahasa Inggris (Master of English Education) which delivered in English and Magister
Hukum Islam (Master of Islamic Law) which delivered in Arabic.

Number of Scholarships:
Not specified.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:
The scholarship benefits generally include: tuition fee waive, living allowance for
1.200.000 IDR/Month, on campus health services, and Bahasa Indonesia For
International Students (BIPA) course for 2 semesters.
The scholarships are offered for 6 semesters.

Eligibility:
To be eligible to receive a Scholarship, applicants must:
a. be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the Scholarship
b. be residing in and applying for the scholarship from their country of
citizenship
c. not be married, engaged to, or a de facto of a person who holds, or is eligible to
hold, Indonesian citizenship or permanent residency, at any time during the
application and selection.
d. not be current serving military personnel
e. not be a citizen of Indonesia, hold permanent residency in Indonesia or be
applying for a visa to live in Indonesia permanently
f. be able to satisfy the admission requirements set by UMS
g. be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Immigration
Scholarship conditions
In accepting the scholarship, scholarship recipients agree to the following
scholarship conditions:

Obligations
The scholarship recipients agree that they must:
1. Commence the Scholarship in the academic year for which it is offered
2. Participate in the Orientation Program arranged by UMS
3. Undertake Bahasa Indonesia course in their first year of Master Program
and must NOT fail the course
4. Undertake only the approved course of study for which the Scholarship is
offered, abide by the rules of the institution, submit all assessment items
required for the course and sit examinations, and complete the scholarship
recipients’ course of study and the Scholarship by the end date
5. NOT enroll in Higher Institution other than UMS
6. Obey the laws that apply in Indonesia
7. Return to home countries after the study is completed

For the duration of the Scholarship the scholarship recipient must:


1. Maintain a full time program of study at all times
2. Maintain his/her accumulative GPA at no less than 2,75 in each semester
3. Provide accurate contact number and address to International Office for Foreign
Affairs
4. Maintain communication with International Office for Foreign Affairs
(BKUI – UMS)
5. NOT work
6. NOT be involved in any political activities

Visa
The scholarship recipient agrees to satisfy all visa requirements determined by the
Department of Immigration. Please contact representative of Indonesian Consulate
In your country.
Financial obligations
The scholarship recipient acknowledges that the scholarship recipient is
responsible for all costs that occur during the Scholarship period that are not
covered by the Scholarship benefits.

Medical expenses
The scholarship recipient acknowledges that they are their liable for any additional
expenses incurred by them.

Other scholarships and studies


The scholarship recipient will not hold another scholarship other than IPS during
their study in UMS

Privacy
The scholarship recipient consents to IO UMS, Department of Immigration, and
Directorate of Higher Degree Education for collecting, exchanging, using and
disclosing information about the scholarship recipient including, but not limited to,
their academic background, their study program in Indonesia and their
professional achievements either before or after receiving the Scholarship, and
including it in such promotional material.

Termination of Scholarship
The scholarship recipient acknowledges that UMS has the right to terminate the
Scholarship and withdraw its support at any time, including if the scholarship
recipient:
1. does not comply with a condition of the Scholarship
2. does not make successful academic progresses (example: cumulative GPA for a
semester is less then 2.75)
3. excluded by UMS because of misconduct (as defined by UMS)
4. absent from Orientation Program during their arrival in UMS
5. fail in BIPA course
6. is unable to continue a program due to serious illness or incapacity for
medical/mental health reasons
7. misconducts according to acceptable Indonesian community standards
8. is found to have committed an act of fraud
9. is found guilty of a crime
10. is found to work
11. is found to enroll in institutions other than UMS

How to apply
To apply the IPS the applicants need to to complete the on line form provided by
Office of International Affairs of UMS. When completing the form the applicants
need to up load the following document:
1. Scan of the original certificate. If the document is not in English the applicant
must provide its translation which is certified by an authorized person, for the
details of his requirement please read section ‘Document certification’)
2. Scan of the original academic trasncript (if your document is not in English
please provide its translation which is certified by an authorized person, for the
details of his requirement please read section ‘Document certification’)
3. Scan of original document as a proof of English proficiency or Bahasa
proficiency (depending on the program that the applicants wish to enroll)
4. Essay of achievement in English or Bahasa which is typed in Word format using
Times New Roman size 12 with 1,5 space and not less than 1500 words
(optional)
5. Essay of organization experience in English or Bahasa which is typed in Word
format using Times New Roman size 12 with 1,5 space and not less than 1500
words (optional)
6. Scan of original Letter of Recommendation in English or Bahasa from a person
who acknowledges the applicant’s academic record, achievement, or
organization experience.
Document certification
Documents accompanying a scholarship application that require certification must
be certified in accordance with the requirements below:
1. The original document has been sighted and the copy has been sworn to be a
true copy of the original by an authorised person at one of the following:
i. the school that originally issued the document/s, or

ii. the Indonesian Embassy in the applicant’s country, or

iii. the Notary Public.

2. The authorised person must:


i. write ‘This is a certified true copy of the original document as sighted by me’,

and

ii. sign and print his/her name, address, contact telephone number, profession or

occupation or organisation and the date verified, and

iii. include the official stamp or seal of the verifier’s organisation on the copy, if
the organisation has such a stamp.

PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT UMS HAS THE RIGHT NOT TO DISCLOSE THE
REASON FOR REJECTING OR ACCEPTING THE APPLICANTS.
