II. LESSON DISCUSSION

HISTORY OF DOMINOES

Dominoes (or dominos) generally refer to the collective gaming pieces

making up a domino set (sometimes called a deck or pack). The traditional Sino-
European domino set consists of 28 domino. Evidences show that tile games have
been found in China as early as 1120 CE. Domino can be played by two to four
players. If there are 2 players, each player draws 7 dominoes, and if there are 3 or
4 players each player draws 5 dominoes.

Dominoes are called "bones" because the earliest domino tiles were made from animal bones or ivory. In
addition to "bones", dominoes are also called "tiles". Each domino is a rectangular tile with a line dividing its face
into two square ends. Each end is marked with a number of spots (also called pips).
