How to Use This Packet
We will be using this packet for a majority of the
rest of the school year as we read our final book, The
Giver. This was one of my favorite books when I was in
school and I am very excited to read it with you all!
The next page will have a breakdown of points
based on the week. This way, you will not be confused
as to what is being done each week and how many
points those assignments will be worth. The next page
will be a cheatsheet of what you need to complete and
when you need to complete it.

Week Eight
Book Talk/Book Bits
On this slide you will be able to watch a short book talk and read quotes
from the book. After, you will let me know what you think may happen in the
book and whether you think you will like it. There are three underlined
words. You will need to say what the words mean based on the context.
“No one mentioned such things; it was not a rule, but was considered rude to call attention to things that were unsettling or
different about individuals.”
“ATTENTION. THIS IS A REMINDER TO FEMALES UNDER NINE THAT HAIR RIBBONS ARE TO BE NEATLY TIED AT ALL TIMES.”
“There was never any comfortable way to mention or discuss one’s successes without breaking the rule against bragging, even if
one didn’t mean to.”
“This evening he almost would have preferred to keep his feelings hidden. But it was, of course, against the rules.”
“He simply willed himself to stand, to move his feet that felt weighted and clumsy, to go forward, up the steps and across the
platform until he stood at her side.”
“He remembered when his family received Lily, the day she was named, the day that she had become a One.”
“The apple had changed. Just for an instant. It had changed in mid-air.”
“Our people made that choice, the choice to go to Sameness. Before my time, before the previous time, back and back and back.
We relinquished color when we relinquished sunshine and did away with difference. We gained control of many things. But we
had to let go of others.”
