Decontamination and Maintenance

Proper operation of Esco products usually requires periodic maintenance and/or decontamination in accordance with common
Standard Operating Procedures and recognized laboratory safety protocols.

Decontamination is a process that reduces contaminants to acceptable levels in biological safety cabinets to eliminate their disease
causing capabilities. Decontamination/fumigation using formaldehyde, hydrogen peroxide or other agents should only be carried
out by trained personnel with proper knowledge and equipment.

Parts Replacement

Every Esco cabinet is manufactured as a commercial grade product and Esco provides replacements for consumable elements as
well as any components that might fail while the product is in service.

Every Esco product is shipped with a Statement of Part Numbers for Replaceable Parts. From time to time, Esco may use
components from different sources or change them after design improvements. The serial number of a product, usually located
on an identification tag on its upper front side, may be used to query an on-line database to retrieve accurate part numbers.

Validation and Certification

In order to maintain consistent and safe operating conditions for any equipment, regular performance tests must be conducted.
Esco’s Validation and Certification Services can ensure that all Esco equipment is providing sufficient containment in the equipment’s
work areas and a pleasant working environment for its operators.

Qualified from the Start

Esco is committed to manufacture products compliant with international standards for performance, safety and energy efficiency
for its worldwide market. We are equally committed to manufacturing processes, administrative documentation, and product 5
certification testing compliant with applicable certifications, GLP (good laboratory practices) and cGMP (current good manufacturing
practices). This is critical to our business model and to our relationships with customers, distributors and certifying agencies.

Support after the Sale

Esco’s customers subject its products to IQ/OQ validation or similar Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), many of which Esco
itself uses during the design and manufacture of its products. Some of the tests and procedures require calibrated equipment
and certified operators. Although many customers perform these SOPs in house, others choose to outsource them to supplement
their capabilities, control time lines, and obtain independent verification of results.

Esco provides its customers with IQ/OQ documentation for its products and offers a broad range of validation, certification and
maintenance services to support their needs. Regular attention to equipment performance will ensure optimal performance and
early detection and correction of potential problems, thus increasing utilization and product yields.

the NSF 49 Standard for Biosafety Cabinets, EN12469 European Norm Standard for Microbiological Safety Cabinets, and others.
We also offer customized certification audits and evaluation programs for clean rooms and associated clean air devices.

Service Description
Airflow Balancing Adjust cabinet internal flow control devices to produce desired air flow.
ULPA / HEPA Filter Integrity Determine the integrity of down flow and exhaust filters by measuring penetration of a test aerosol.
ULPA / HEPA Filter Replacement Replace compromised filters or those at the end of their service life.
Inflow / Face Velocity Determine the velocity profile of air entering a cabinet through its work access opening via measurement and calculation.
Laminar Flow Velocity Determine the velocity profile of air moving within a cabinet work space using a thermal anemometer.
Particle Count Verify work zone air cleanliness in accordance with ISO 14644.1 classification criteria by particle counting.
Airflow Visualization Qualitatively evaluate airflow into work access area by visualizing smoke patterns.
Airflow Alarm Calibration Adjust the alarm set point of the airflow measurement system.
Blower / Fan Replacement Remove and replace a defective blower or fan assembly.
Electrical Troubleshooting Examine electrical devices, wiring connections and adjustments in a cabinet to diagnose and correct improper operation.
Electrical Safety Inspect grounding system and measure leakage currents in a cabinet electrical system to ensure equipment safety.
GFCI Performance Test Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter outlets, when installed, to ensure proper operation and protection.
Pressurization Measure pressure differentials from ambient in cabinet work space and/or pass-through to evaluate adequacy.
6 Enclosure Integrity Assess the integrity of the surfaces, seams and joint of a cabinet.
Product Ingress / Egress Measure particle counts during material transfer procedures into/out of glove boxes/isolators to verify acceptable values.
Recovery Time Measure the time interval after simulated major contamination for a cabinet work zone to return to acceptable cleanliness.
Glove Breach Verify the integrity of a glove and its attachment system to an isolator/glove box by measuring inward airflow at an open glove port.
Decontamination Biologically sterilize a cabinet using formalin vapor or hydrogen peroxide.
Noise Measure the corrected A-weighted sound level pressure produced by the fan(s).
Light Measure the lighting intensity at the work surface in a cabinet.
Vibration Measure vibration level of the work surface to prevent damage to sensitive processes and to ensure operator comfort.
UV Intensity Measure the effectiveness of the ultraviolet lamp, when installed, for surface germicidal decontamination.
Site Installation Assessment Verify proper installation of cabinet pursuant to recommended practices regarding location, external connections, etc.
KI Discus Containment Determine the containment integrity of a cabinet by measurement of potassium iodide droplet leakage.
SF6 Chemical Containment Determine the containment integrity of a cabinet by measurement of sulfur hexafluoride gas leakage.
Carbon Filter Retention Measure the adsorption capacity of a carbon filter to assess performance.
Carbon Filter Replacement Remove and replace compromised carbon filters or those at the end of their service life.
Aerosol Induction (Sash Seal) Inspect for leakage of the sash seal of a cabinet using an aerosol.
Temperature Calibration Sensor adjustment, temperature fluctuation, temperature uniformity and temperature recovery test.
CO2 Calibration Sensor adjustment, CO2 fluctuation and CO2 recovery test.
O2 Calibration Sensor adjustment, O2 fluctuation and O2 recovery test.

IQ/OQ Documentation

A certified process ensures that qualified equipment is used pursuant to validated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Those
SOPs that are applicable to equipment and instruments are classified as follows:

Installation Qualification (IQ) documents that the specified equipment was received and properly installed in a suitable
environment. IQ is also required for used equipment installation, equipment moved within a facility or connected to modified
systems at the facility or subject to a changed SOP. IQ can be performed by the customer or Esco.

Operational Qualification (OQ) documents that the equipment still meets its specifications after installation in the customer’s
facility. OQ can be performed by the customer or Esco, and must be performed at least annually for every piece of equipment.

Esco provides our customers instructions for IQ and OQ of our products. Esco also can perform these services directly on behalf
of its customers or arrange them through independent approved local certifiers. The availability may vary from country to country
and region to region. Also, Esco can train customer employees to perform IQ/OQ as described in the Aftermarket Support section
later in this document.

Aftermarket Support

Esco offers in-warranty and post-warranty support for all products.

Extended Warranty
Extensions of Esco's standard warranty against defects in materials and workmanship are available. Extended warranties fix the
capital cost of ownership of the product over its entire service life by eliminating the risk of failure due to latent defects.

Technical Support Subscription

Esco provides technical support via email and telephone, including troubleshooting performance issues, answering questions
about product operation and maintenance, and assisting with certification. 7

Preventive Maintenance Agreements

Periodic preventive maintenance assures that Esco products provide desired performance. Preventive maintenance contracts are
customer specified and may include periodic filter changing, decontamination, interior cleaning, and replacement of the UV
lamp or other functions.

Replacement Manuals
All Esco products are shipped with comprehensive installation and operation documentation. While Esco Service Manuals include
information for field-level maintenance, electrical component replacement and calibration.

Sentinel Software Upgrades

The Sentinel suite of microprocessor-based controllers operates on software developed for maximum performance and data
management. New software releases are offered as required, and available for download via the Internet.

Training and Workshop

Esco offers training for users of its equipment on the procedures in its User and Service Manuals.

Operational training includes product placement, electrical connection, connection to facility air handling system, adjustment of
leveling feet and locking of casters, use of Sentinel Software and pressure measurement instrumentation, cleaning, decontamination
and changing filters.

Maintenance training includes the procedures used by our personnel and described above. You can assure that your personnel
are prepared to deploy and use your Esco products.

Certification training is similar in scope to the training described above, and includes hands on demonstration of the skills being
taught. The use of certified personnel facilitates assessing utilization, productivity and risks of complicated or sensitive protocols.
Those who complete Esco Certification Workshops will receive a certificate of attendance.
