What you need to know?
To multiply mentally 2-digit by 2-digit numbers with products up to
200, follow these steps:
Solution 1
 Multiply the ones
 Multiply the tens by the ones.
 Add the two partial products.
Solution 2
 Use the distributive property
Example: 12 x 14
Do these steps in your mind.
14 Step 1: Multiply the multiplicand by the ones in the multiplier.
x12 2 x 14 = 28
28 Step 2: Multiply the multiplicand by the tens in the multiplier.
+140 10 x 14 = 140
168 Step 3: Add the partial products.
28 + 140 =168
You can use the distributive property to get the product mentally.
12 x 14 = 12 x ( 10 + 4)
= (12 x 10 ) + ( 12 x 4 )
= 120 + 48
= 168
