Topic Proposal & Guiding Questions for G8 Unit 3 Persuasion

Due Tuesday Feb. 16th

Problem:
There are not many dogs friendly parks in Chiang Mai and it makes it difficult for dogs owner here to
let their dog play around freely in a safe open space.

Community the problem affects:
This lack of dog park problem affects dog owners living in Chiang Mai.

What does this community need in terms of support?
This community needs more dog parks open to all types of dogs in their area to satisfy their
circumstances. For example, some might need their dog to exercise more. So they can bring their dog
to the park and let it run around for the exercise it needs.

Social Enterprise:
❏ What does the social enterprise/business do?
This business is basically a park for dogs of all types. This social enterprise will help people
spend quality time with their precious companions and spend more time outside. There will
also be a dog care service where they need to pay for during their time in the park.

❏ How does it work?
This dog park will look and feels like a normal park but has facilities that specifically support
dogs. For instance, there will be water in dog bowls around the park for hydration. Also, this
park isn’t secluded just for dogs and dog owners. Anyone can come and have fun. Lastly, the
dog care service is like a doggy daycare for busy dog owners to leave their dogs with staff at
the park to take care for x amount of time. During the doggy daycare, dogs will be able to do
fun activities with other dogs and do some training with staff.

❏ Who works there? Is it the affected community?
Me, dog experts, business managing team, and volunteers will work at this dog park. I will
obviously be the one managing and building this business. However, I wouldn’t be able to
manage and maintain this social enterprise myself so I will find team members who are
interested in this social enterprise to work with me. The dog experts can train the dogs in
doggy daycare, and volunteers can supervise the dogs around the park. This can also be the
affected community because dog owners are obviously interested in dogs, so they might want
to work here. Additionally, this dog park will be in Chiang Mai. So most employees would be
locals here or Thai.

❏ How does this social enterprise help solve/aid the problem?
This dog park social enterprise will build something new for the community. The problem was that
there was a lack of dog-friendly parks in Chiang Mai. So the idea of building a new dog park
somewhere in Chaing Mai will give dog owners a place where they can let their dogs have fun, run
around safely. This dog park also gives the opportunity for dog owners to leave their dogs at a safe
daycare so they can go out and do whatever they need to do. Having this new trustworthy dog park
will solve the problem of Chiang Mai lacking dog-friendly parks.

Initial Research of the problem - find 3 facts to support the issue you are addressing
- There are around 20 dog-friendly parks in Chiang Mai
- Not all parks are specifically made for dogs
- There has been a pro-pet change to care for dogs in Chiang Mai more with “dog-based
services”
