Uncle Kwok worked and was the strangest of all in Daddy's factory. He wore clothes that were greater
than he was. After work, he walked peacefully and slowly with a black patch. He hung his coat and hat
and sat down on a sewing machine. He would remove a piece of carton from the box and cut it
according to his shoe. He would replace the old ones, then dispose, once satisfied with its new
cardboard soles. This process has been repeated daily. Then he wore his homemade, long, thick special
apron. Following his work, he would go to the kitchen sink and begin to wash his hands and fingernails.
Comprehension:
What is the main point that Wong makes about uncle Kwok? In which sentence is this point clearly
established?

in his first sentence.

Uncles Kwok wears clothes larger than he is.

s.Then he would dry his hands finger by finger.
What words would you use to describe Wong’s attitude towards Uncle Kwok?
I would describe Wong's attitude to Uncle Kwok because she feared him and regarded him as an
extraordinary guy. But I think that Uncle Kwok was fascinating because she saw his whole routine from
afar, and knew all his habits.
What does Uncle Kwok’s statement in paragraph 7 explain about his behavior? Does it help us to
understand Uncle Kwok better? If so, how?
He explains in paragraph 7 that he is a tragic person and a sensitive person who was hurt by Wong's
mother's comment. His statement shows us that he was not content with his life and therefore that he
was confident that he was not awkward.
In the first paragraph, Wong describes Uncle Kwok as ‘strange’. What makes him strange to her? What
makes any person strange?
Being different from other people uncle Kwok makes him odd to Wong. Wearing clothes larger, walking
differently, always holding a stick and always performing in its own place the same routine. It was
strange to repeat the same process without any change. Sometimes being different and unique makes
someone weird to others.
