Camarilla Reversal Scanners
Camarilla Reversal Scanners
Trade-Idea Alerts
Overview/Strategies:
As many of you have seen from watching Thor trade, Camarilla Pivot Points can be a powerful
tool for catching reversals or breakouts/continuations. Throughout this tutorial I will lay out
how to re-create these levels within Trade-Ideas so that you can utilize them in custom
scanners. I will also provide the settings and explanations behind the scanners that I have built.
If you have questions please private message me in the chat (Matt C.) or if I am not answering
there you can email me at [email protected] (please use that sparingly if possible).
So, without further ado, let’s get started.
My scanners are based on a combination of volume spikes near camarilla levels. Below is a list
of the various strategies I’ve built scanners for:
1. S2-S3 Long – price is between S2 and no more than 10 cents below S3 with
heavy/unusual volume
2. R2-R3 Short – Price is between R2 and no more than 10 cents above R3 with
heavy/unusual volume
3. S3-S4 Long – Same as above but with next level up/down
4. R3-R4 Short – Same as above but with next level up/down
5. S3 Long – basically the same as #1 and #2 but based on being within +/- 0.5% of S3 or
R3. I’ve found sometimes these work better than the above and sometimes they alert
you too late so I include both and you can decide what you like best.
6. R3 Short – Same as above but with R3
7. Open Above R4 back at R3 (Long) – stock is strong and opens above R4 then retraces to
R3 with volume
8. Open Above R3 back at S3 (Long) – Stock opens above R3 but is now all the way back at
S3 with volume
9. Open Below S4 back at S3 (Short) – Stock opens weak below S4 and pulls back to S3
with volume
10. Open Below S3 back at R3 (Short) – Stock opens weak but has come all the way back to
R3 with volume
Before we get started, I wanted to give two quick FYI’s that you should keep in mind:
1. Thor chooses to include pre-market values in the calculation of Pivot Points. I’ve found
that the traditional formulas don’t include pre/post market data, and I have not been
able to find a way to include those values when creating the levels in Trade-Ideas. Many
times, these values will be very similar, but mine are the equivalent of if you have your
DAS configured with the option checked to NOT include pre/post market data in the
camarilla calculation. I prefer them without pre/post data myself, but you are welcome
to try and find a way to include it (let me know if you do!).
2. I include screen caps of my some of my back-testing. In all cases these are back-tested
over the max 63 day period that Trade-Ideas allows, with a 2% Stop and a 1% profit
target, and over the entire trading day. Why not 1 to 2 target you ask? I’ve found that
allowing a wider stop is better for back-testing because when you use them live you will
be looking for reversal signs for a good entry and placing a close stop. However, trade-
ideas acts as if you bought/sold the second an alert was triggered. Thus, using tight
stops artificially lowers the win percentage (bit of art vs science going on here). If you do
use a 1:2 target for back testing they will still show good results. Here is a good video to
watch about some of the pitfalls to avoid while back-testing:

Once you have this page up you’ll have to go through and copy and paste in all the formulas

Once you have these set up just close out of the Trade-Ideas desktop app if it is currently open
and then once you re-open it these will be window filter options.

*My theory on why this one is lower is that we have been in a very bullish market lately so if it
recovers this much it is probably like shorting a very strong stock.
Step 3: Profit???
I really hope this helps some of you! I welcome any and all feedback, and I’d love to hear some
ideas on how to improve these. Again, if you have questions please PM me in the chat (Matt C.)
or if I am not answering there you can email me at [email protected] (please use
that sparingly if possible).
Lastly, as some people have asked for this, I’ve included the collaboration link from Trade-Ideas
for these scanners. I don’t think this will work, but maybe once you have the formulas created it
will function properly:
