average difference between the two groups (89 score points) across The Organization for
Economic Co-operation and Development countries. Some of the more common causes
of school problems are caused of lack in care of their Parents, School Problems, Family
Problems, Depression, Broken Relationships, Bullying etc. The fact the some students
with apparently high scholastic aptitude do very poorly in high school while others with
only mediocre ability do very well has presented a challenge to many educators.

because it constitutes the back bone of learning process. Learning is a complicated and
dynamic process, and learning in real sense gets completed through motivation. Since to
learn builds one of the basic elements of learning, students take an important step on the
road to learning through motivation. However, students may sometimes lose their
willingness and interest towards lesson which puts a major barrier in front of effective
language learning . Therefore, study is concerned with lack of motivation. To being with,
this study explores the reasons of disinterest students display towards language-learning.
Next, it dwells upon the way of promoting motivation of the students showing reluctance

THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
The chapter presents foreign literature and studies as well as local literature and studies to
gain clearer perspective of the topic under investigation.
Foreign literature
Galiher (2006) and Darling (2005), used GPA to measure student performance the main
focus in the student performance for the particular semester. Some other researchers used
test results or pervious years result since they are studying performance for the specific
subject or year ( Hijazi and Naqvi, 2006 and Hake, 2007). Many researchers have
discussed the different factors that affect the student academic performance in their
research. There are two types of factors that affect students’ academic performance.
These are internal and external classroom factors and these factors affect the student
performance. Internal classroom factors includes students competence in English, class
schedule , class size, English textbooks, Class test results, Learning Facilities, Homework
and Teachers role in the class.
External classroom factors include extra curriculum activities, family problems, work and
financial, social and other problems.
Research studies shows that students performance depends on many factor such as
learning facilities, gender and age differences etc. that can affect students performance
(Hansen, Joe B, 2000). Harb and El-Shaaarawi (2006) found that the most important
factor with positive effect on students performance is Parental Involvement.
According to Catherine Gewerts, there was a survey given to 467 dropout students from
25 major cities. This survey was given to them to know the reason for their dropping out
of school, and 69% of them say the reason for dropping out was due to lack of
motivation. (H.S. Dropouts Say Lack of Motivation Top Reason to Quit) Although there
are multiple reasons to why many students in school lack motivation, there’s techniques
to improve this problem.
Technology, T.V’s, and the social media can cause a student to be lazy to his/her work.
“Survey conducted by Pew Research Center, 72 percent of high school and 78 percent of
college students spend time on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.” says Technician.
Everyday students are anxious to go on social media or watch T.V and spend countless
hours obtaining these activities, and when they do they’re paying a price. The time they
take to be on technology for fun, is time they could have used to study for a test or
complete assignments. This then leads to the falling behind of school work.
“It’s not technology that makes us lazy, is the way we use it that does,” says Carolina
Coviello. There are some people that say technology doesn’t cause laziness but the truth
behind that in my opinion is, it does. Students today can’t discipline themselves to limit
their time on technology, so in that case, technology does make students lazy.
A Seattle 10th grade student admits she spent her time doing her homework less when
she got a smartphone. (Disadvantages of Social Networking: Surprising Insights from
Teens) That’s the environment students depend on now, the social media, the new era of
this generation can’t go a day without technology.
So if someone argues technology doesn’t make a student lazy, then why are there many
students spending less time on school work and more time on social media?
Falling behind in school because procrastination from the media can lead to stress and
overthinking. Overthinking can be in terms of: thinking that you won’t be able to get
everything done, or thinking everything has to be done at once.
Web MB says the one reason causing stress is having a heavy workload or having too
much responsibility. The more procrastination takes place, the more work students are
neglecting, and the more they fall behind. All this buildup then leads to the weakening of
their actions, and when they finally realize how much work they’re missing they lack the
motivation to do any of them.
In some cases, Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs in a student aren’t being met. If a student
doesn’t have the basic physiological needs including: sleep, food, clothing, and shelter
then the student may not have energy and the ability to focus in school, causing them to
fall behind and not want to finish the work.
Experts from an education textbook says without some of these physiological needs then
a student can’t focus in school because the thing they would be focusing on is finding
ways to fulfill these needs.
For instance if a student was hungry in class, then they’d have a hard time paying
attention to the teacher, and focus on wanting to eat food. So without these needs then
students won’t want to do anything until they get what they need/want.
Although there are reasons to why students lack motivation in school to do work, they
can do something about it. The first thing to improving students to work more on school
work is to put their phones away, and learn to discipline themselves from the hours they
spend on social media. When they do this, they have more time to complete assignments
and have a lesser chance of falling behind and the buildup of stress.
A study by London School of Economics says when the schools banned students from
having their phones, their test scores boosted 14 percent. So the less time they spent on
phones, the better their test scores got.
Another great technique is positive thinking. Students should take time to think about the
great outcome they will get in the future. For instance when I’m stressed about all the
school work I have at the moment, I think about graduation.
Another way of positive thinking can be identifying what’s stressing them out and ways
they can solve it, when they do this they calm the stresses they’re feeling and have a
greater ability to want to work. Students can also create lists of what needs to be done and
make a plan throughout the week of how much work to do each day.
If there’s no other option for students, having students create a rewards system can help
motivate them to do their work. Although some people say creating this system makes
students demand rewards for doing their work, it’s still a working technique. Without this
rewards system being their last option, then they won’t want to do their work.
Teachers can help students create plans for the week on what to work on, for instance: if
a student completes 5 assignments for a class then they can go out with friends for a day,
or if they worked on homewor
RESEARCH LOCALE
This study will be conducted on San Miguel National High School during the
school year 2019-2020. The shool is located at Scuala St., San Juan, San Miguel,
Bulacan, Central Luzon Philippines. The first batch of the class started in year 1946. The
San Miguel National High School has an estimated student population of 6,000 to 7,000
students which includes the Junior High School and Senior High School coming out
majority from the town and other nearby towns like San Ildefonso and Province of
Pampanga.
San Miguel National High School, formerly San Miguel High School is one of the
most active and known School in the province of Bulacan. The School opened its first
class in the 1946, with a two-storey wooden building (also known as the main building)
structured at the main entrance of the campus. After a successful pilot school test, the
school land area also increase as famous and generous families in the town donated land
for school expansion.

METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This study utilized the qualitative type of study which according Netswidomy
(2004) is a naturalistic method of inquire of research which deal with the issue of human
complexity by exploring it directly. In this type the emphasis is on the complexity of
human their ability to shape and create their own experience and the idea that truth is a
composite reality. This study utilized the Phenomenological Research Design. This
design focuses on obtaining description of the subject or respondents live experiences
either in writing or through interviews. The goal of this study to analyze the meaning
behind there experience for each subject, rather than generalizing to a greater population.
(Donalek, 2004).According to Wholly understand the subject experience the researcher
must set aside their own feeling and expectation towards the study. Those feeling and
expectation may hinder the researcher from seeing the experience through the subjects
perspective.
The researcher conducted survey and interview. The form was constructs by the
researcher under the supervision of their research teacher to accomplish their goal. Five
question and five statement were answered by the participants in order deeper analyze the
Location of the study
The study conducted at San Miguel National High School (SMNHS) that is located at
Scuala St, San Juan, San Miguel, Bulacan where the researchers are currently studying as
Senior High School Students. SMNHS, is the one of the biggest public secondary school
in the Province of Bulacan. SMNHS funded by the government. As a result, many

Respondents of the study
The respondents of the study will come from Junior to Senior High School teachers who
felt Lack of Interest and Motivation and the sample of the researchers study will consists
of 10-15 teachers.
Sampling Procedure
The researchers will use the sampling procedure purposive sampling since the researchers
will conduct an interview to the purposively selected teachers from Junior to Senior High
School Teachers and at the same time the researchers will use a snowball sampling
procedure, since the researchers will also ask to the participants who may be able to
participant to the researchers study, this procedure will also help the researchers to find
recruit participant that may otherwise hard to reach.
Findings
The result of our research of being lack of interest and motivation of many
student’s is because of financial problem, family problem, addiction on mobile games
and social media.
Conclusion
Having studied this course you should be able to discuss what is meant by the term
‘motivation’ and the situational and trait-centred views of motivation. You have examined
two of the theories of motivation to develop your understanding more deeply. The main
learning points for this course are: People will be motivated by a range of factors and these
are different for everyone. Personality and the environment both need to be considered when
motivating people. Need achievement theory explains why high achievers choose difficult or
challenging tasks and why low achievers choose easier tasks at which they are less likely to
fail. Attribution theory shows that what we attribute our success or failure to will have an
effect on our motivation.
Recommendations
The researchers recommends for teachers and to our school about of the problem for
students lack of interest and motivation is they bring extra activities, remedial class and
special tasks.
