What is evil?
What do you define as evil? Your answer will probably be very different from your classmates and
your parents. But what is the reason for this?
We as humans are very different, this includes our perceptions of what evil is. This is something
that varies a lot from person to person.
In such cases where you are the only one who perceives a certain subject as evil, you may feel
different and left out. But really, you’re the only one that knows what you find right and wrong.
Sometimes you do something evil completely without knowing it, that is, that you are giving an
unconscious form of evil.
This could be bullying, which starts with teasing but is not stopped in time and actually ends up
hurting another person. It can be really difficult to know when something goes from being teasing
to being bullying, but in general, it is said that bullying is teasing that takes place over long periods
of time and is often carried out systematically. This means that the teasing could take place after
school or every time after football training. In this essay, I will primarily focus on bullying among
children, although adult bullying is also a difficulty that has to be resolved or dealt with.
But how many young people tease others, and is it actually teasing, or is it unintentional bullying
and thus also evil?

Firstly, I will try to investigate where the word bullying comes from. The word bullying comes from
the English word "mob", which means a group or groupings of people. In other words, this is a
group of people who keep another individual out or deliberately treat them badly.
In today's society, however, it is not just about groupings that treat others badly, incidents occur
more and more often where fake networks are set up over social media to harass another, this
means that you can’t see whether or not the person actually means the stuff he is writing or not.
Norwegian psychologist Dan Olweus has tried to define bullying, here he characterized bullying in
that a person was repeatedly exposed to negative actions from one or more people. A negative
action in this case is where a person is deliberately trying to harm another person or make them
feel uncomfortable.

Bullying has taken place for a long time, but it was not until the 1970s that Danish in-depth studies
about bullying began. Over the last 20 years, there has been a lot of focus on the subject, and
every year efforts are made to combat bullying, especially among young people.

Secondly, I will try to find the difference between teasing and bullying, and look into whether or
not there really is a clear line that separates these two from each other.
All negative actions are not bullying, teasing in itself is not bullying. It depends on what is being
teased with, and what the subject being teased about is. Also, how inappropriate the vulnerable
individual finds it, some may find it funny whilst others will get hurt.
Unpleasant episodes that occur once or twice, such as verbal attacks, are often not called bullying
but teasing. If these episodes are not taken seriously, it can develop into bullying.
There are many different definitions of bullying, but just because a child does not feel bullied, it
can still be a very unpleasant experience that needs to be stopped sooner rather than later.

Lastly, I will try to look into which forms of bullying exist and which are the most commonly used
forms of bullying.
Once again, I seek help from the Norwegian psychologist Dan Olweus, who distinguishes between
indirect and direct bullying, which are the two biggest forms of bullying.
Direct bullying is often physical acts against the victim, such as being pushed, beaten, etc.
It can also be mimicry or degrading someone through shouting.
Indirect bullying is the form of bullying that is not so conspicuous, it is, for example, slander and
other gossips that takes place behind the other person's back. It can also be isolating them and
deliberately excluding them from the community.
Especially nicknames and condescending comments about one's appearance are something that
occurs frequently. In a survey of 6th-grade students, approximately every other person has
experienced this type of bullying. Otherwise, it is especially physical bullying that occurs most
often.

Therefore, I can conclude that bullying is something that often takes place. There are many
different forms of bullying and it can be difficult, especially for young people, to distinguish
between teasing and bullying. Bullying will probably still be a phenomenon in 100 years, and the
unconscious evil is something that will always be able to occur and that we just have to try to
prevent. There will always be some people who cannot behave properly and who must treat
others badly, but we can try to reduce the number of these.
