Personality is who we are. how we act and react and interact or respond to our
world. thru our experiences we can tell how we will react to things. how u react to
others will tell u abt ur personality. dependent from our environmnet, culture,
parents(serves as our models), experiences, Friends/peers, genetics, influence
@work

Personality is what makes a person a unique person and it is recognizable soon


after birth.
Factors : influenced by temperament, environment and character

Components of personality

1. Temperament- is the set of geneticallydetermined traits that determine the


child's approach to the world and how the child learns about the world.
It can be said that temperament is in our nature or our Human Nature.

Psychology says that temparemnent and environment can ifluence one's personality
the most.

All experts agree that high parenting can influence greatly on a child'd dev.
parents can anticipate issues that can be problematic to their children.

2. Environment- these are adaptive patterns. Whatever happens in the environment,


we tend to adapt. we are influenced by what is happening in the environment.

3. Character- set of emotional, cognitive and behavioral patterns learned from


experience that determines how a person thinks, feels and behaves. Dependent on
moral development and principles.
4. Culture- may be individualistic(individual needs and accomplishments)
- Community centered(belonging to groups and cooperation)

DEFINITON
Perosnality derived from latin word "Persona"which means mask.
the relatively stable feeling and behavioral pattern a persson has. changes may
also occur over time.

What is personality dev?


is an improvement in all spheres of an individual's life be it w/ friends, office
or in any other environment.

IMPORTANCE of personality dev:


•Personality development grooms an individual andhelps him make a mark of his/her
own
•Personality development goes a long way in reducingstress and conflicts.
•Personality development helps you develop a positive attitude in life.

Stages of Development
FIRST STAGE-LEARNING BASIC TRUST OR MISTRUST(HOPE)
If infant is cared for, it creates basic trust(Basic trust) .If not cared for,
he/she can develop insecurities or BASIC MISTRUST
>Infancy- during the 1-2 yrs of life

SECOND STAGE-LEARNING AUTONOMY OR SHAME(WILL)


>Toddlerhood- 18 mos-4yrs. occurs during childhood. Selfconfident and happy with
his newly found controlFreedom. May have tendency to be stubborn, tantrums or
negativism.
Can gain confidence.
THIRD STAGE-LEARNING INITIATIVE OR GUILT(PURPOSE)
>Pre-school - during play age or the later preschool years 3years- entry to a
formal school. They learn to interact with other children as well. Imaginative,
active play and fantasy and if not they will become fearful. Cooperative with
others. lead as well as to follow. unsuccessful> becomes careful. Cognitive is
being honed. They have initiative making them cooperative.
Industrious
Doubtful and inferior

Fourth Stage- School age- Learning Industry or Inferiority (Competence)


MAstery of Formaal Skills:
tendency to be industrious

FIFTH STAGE LEANING IDENTITY OR IDENTITY DIFFUSION(FIDELITY)


Starts to be more responsiblw, and be more mature with those responsibility. We
don't want to be looked at a negative light. Sexual identity is clear. We try to
emulae people who inspires us.

Importance of the stages of development


to undesrtand ourselves so we know what to achieve in our professions.
