Answer to Question No: 1
First of all, the biggest mistake that Warren and Carol Oats made in their first week in Japan was
that they were in hurry to make a business appointment. Oats need to do some research on
Japanese methods for doing business there. Especially on their social behavior and formal
interaction. They also should know that how business is directed in Japan and how formal
business conduct. They also should know that how business is directed in Japan and how formal
business conduct.
Secondly, Oats should have introduced his name card individually in the first meeting even
before he began to present his proposition to them. Also introduce himself and the organization
is also important for the first interaction. Perhaps these are the formal etiquette which one should
focus on instead of going directly forthright. Most of the time, the Japanese are really very
careful at choosing the right person for their job. So, he should approach them properly.
Thirdly, the Oats recruited a translator to translate for them. They also should recruit somebody
to teach them about Japanese business behavior. Basically, most of the time the American
embrace of getting directly to the point and that isn't satisfactory in Japan. As the American
approach works all over the world, so the outcomes should have been extraordinary.
Also, they might have noticed that, in Japanese business culture, business guests have to offer tea
before the meeting. And, also drink tea gradually and not rush into any negotiations.
These are some specific mistakes that Warren and Carol Oats did in Japan.
The advice I would give that, one's appearance must be so precise in front of any
Americans.
Attending any kind of Business party must be Formal and way too professional. Wearing
a suit with a fine leather shoe is very much catchy and appealing.
Instead of using business cards, a good personality and smooth conversation can create a
great impression.
To become more familiar with American Language, American TV shows and movies can
help. Realistic and humorist people are much appreciated.
Straight on point in the meeting with nice body language with not taking much time can
help to become more efficient in the business.
Strong virtue, Word of mouth, and Responsibility is much necessary to do business with
Americans.
Going to the meeting early, getting familiar with the place and people, developing a good
understanding can get more than just business.
Successful business plans, important stats, short proposals, and a short meeting with a
nice smile will be enough for a great American Business Meeting.
