2. Reflection Essay on Qualities of an Effective English Macro Skills Teacher (focusing on Unique
Ideas Presented, Organization of Ideas, and Concepts/Approaches Cited)
- Every teacher has their own unique style, there are still specific qualities that we
should possess to be called effective English teacher. A qualities of an effective
Effective teacher is keep your students engaged with positive attitude. Think your
students as teammates, not adversaries. Stay focused, but don’t be afraid to be
creative and innovative. Allow yourself to be enthusiastic and find ways to let
students see what is interesting about your subject. You should know the course
material. Think about how the material can be most effectively demonstrated and
designed a strategy. Write an outline or take notes to follow during a lecture, prepare
your overheads, diagrams, handouts and other aids well in advance. Have plan for
what you want to teach. Illustrate key points and essential context, to help student
integrate all of their work. Effective teachers can explain complex ideas. Help students
understand and use terminology, so they become fluent in the language of your
discipline. Being accessible means you are approachable and very easy to reach. Since
English is not our native language, expect that your students will ask you a lot of
questions and you have yo make sure that you are very much willing to listen and
answer their questions. Organization ideas can also pose a challenge to many
students. Students who struggle to organize their ideas have trouble sorting,
categorizing, and ordering information while reading, note-taking, outlining and
planning their writing, studying and problem solving. Organizational tools can help
students enhance their macro skills like videotape, role playing, etc. Concept of
macro-skills is communicative learning it provide opportunities for learners to
experiment and try out what they know. Task-based learning approach it is where the
teacher ask their students to perform tasks that resemble authentic, real life
situations. This approach help students improve their learning in macro skill and
understand.
