Good Morning everyone,
I Prittha Dutta, with my fellow group members, Aritra Saha, Prasun Roy, Rajashi Roy, Ronit
Agarwal, Rounak Shaw and Sayantani Deb, will present you with insights from the coronavirus
pandemic.
So, let’s go to flashback to review the year 2020 and we will check out on how covid pandemic
affected humanity.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
When the global pandemic covid-19 started to stretch its arm, people around the world started
to take measures to reduce the chance of infection, by staying at home, washing hands with
soap, practicing good respiratory hygiene, wearing mask in public gatherings,…., avoiding
crowded places and by keeping a safe 10 feet distance from one another.
Almost the entire world called a nationwide lockdown in order to slow down the speed of
infection. The only thing which the world feared was the miniature fingers of infection, floating
with the wind and reaching almost every nation. More than that was the stats which terrified
the entire world. Almost 2 million covid patients disappeared from our planet every day.
Meanwhile, more 10 million people get added as victim to coronavirus infection.
And by now, it was globally accepted that covid pandemic rose from bats, and China was the
first nation to face the music.
Imposing lockdown made the world stay in. People except for police officers and medical staffs,
were not allowed to walk out of their places for their job and business purposes. And this truly
affected the job market.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
Businesses and job market were drastically affected by the covid pandemic. Most of the major
shopping destinations were on the verge to shut down. Restaurants, fast food centers and
theatres look to mirror the scenario as of shopping destinations.
Companies including those of airways, seaways, oil market, construction and travel were
somehow managed to survive the dusk. These companies removed the lower experienced
workers and for few highly skilled workers, they provided salary with a payment cut. This way,
most of these companies still stand despite the pandemic.
None of the government employees were removed from their job stage, though they too faced
the payment cut.
As expected, newly skilled job seekers were hit the worst due to covid-19. Finding out job for a
new employee has become an absolute pick-and-shovel. As per U.S. bureau of labor statistics,
new job seekers have to wait till 2030 for a stable employment market.
Standing out of the crowd, software industries and pharmaceutical industries showed an epic
boom in positive growth.
Covid being a medical lookout raised the demand of hand sanitizers, soaps, masks, medical
glove, few specific medicines and other medical stuffs. This eventually profits the
pharmaceutical industries.
Work from home was the best way to work during pandemic, and software companies were
the only one to have the pros here. People preferred online shopping the most during the
coronavirus pandemic.
So, 2020 had been almost a no work year, and if people won’t work, how is it possible for a
nation to grow its economic state.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………....
Coronavirus reached every corner of the world, possibly without a VISA and helped the world in
its economic decline.
Let’s start with the strongest economic and military powered country, you guessed it, it’s USA.
As per BBC, USA saw the worst GDP drop since 1958. According to US Bureau of economic
analysis, GDP here shrank at an annual rate of 32.9 % during lockdown.
Close to US, Canada faced a record 11 % GDP fall. As per the Canada economic agencies, out of
20 industrial sectors, only non-durable manufacturing companies triumphed, the rest 19 had
declined.
From north America, we fly to Europe, It looks like sorta economic declination race is going on
here. With UK leading, Spain almost gaining the second spot, while France, Germany and Italy
closing in for the third place. UK stands tall with 20.4 % GDP decline as they focused more on
services, hospitality and consumer spending instead of imposing strict lockdown. And this made
people living in UK feel proud of their nation.
So, what’s the scenario in Russia, well, it’s doing better than USA and UK, and as per Russian
economic report, a growth in GDP is expected. So, this should be a moment of joy but Still
President Putin looks worried. Probably because the headlines read “a growth of -4 % in GDP is
expected in Russia”. I think you got the point.
We all remember pokemon, doremon, shinchan and many other anime shows. Whenever, we
talk about them, the only country comes in our mind is “JAPAN”. No doubt, Japan has been a
motivation for the whole world after its recovery from ‘world war II’. Still countries like this
make blunder. Instead of putting the country under lockdown, Japan called out a national
emergency. Ending up with 3.4 % GDP decline.
Some countries took lockdowns way too seriously. Lockdown was the best way to save lives but
GDP has got some rules to follow, so it stamped a 10.2 % GDP downfall to India. But at present,
India shows marvelous GDP growth of 10.1 %.
Now, how would you feel when your house burnt out and government ask you to stay inside
your house? Puzzled! Don’t you. That’s what people faced in Australia. The only country that
got hit twice. First, the bush-fire and then corona-fire. Still they restricted the GDP fall to 7%,
way better than other developed countries.
Meanwhile, the most amazing and on the same time, peculiar sight during pandemic, was the
GDP of China, as it was the only country with a green bar while rest all had long red bars.
Even though global economy fall to bad extent, but it can be pulled out at a better stage once
again. This can only be possible with help of our young minds and their most powerful tool, yes,
you are right, it’s education. Let’s have a look on how pandemic affected children life and the
education system.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………............................
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
The closure of schools is, of course, damaging to children's education. But schools are not just a
place for learning. They are places where kids socialise, develop emotionally and, for some, a refuge
from troubled family life.
The pandemic has caused a range of harms to children across the world from being isolated
and lonely to suffering from sleep problems and reduced physical activity. But it's not just the
closure of schools. The stress the pandemic has put on families, with rising levels of
unemployment and financial insecurity combined with the stay-at-home orders, has put strain on
house life. This in turn put mental stress on kids as they were watching signs of worry on the
face of their parents.
Children involved in family tensions and financial concerns as well as feeling isolated from
friends and fear about the virus is what causing them distress. The pandemic closes enough to
cause students feel “there future is going to be bleak”.
Even though online schooling using zoom and google meet allowed schools to continue, but this
also created an education gap between kids, as still 40 % of the world, especially major parts of
Africa and south America have no stable access to internet.
Meanwhile, in India, some online educational platforms like Vedantu helped kids to come up
with their school education. While, some companies used kids as their vending machine. Most
popular of all is WhiteHat Jr, Which claims to teach coding and university level computer
science concepts to mere under 15 kids. Companies like this tried to attract middle class
parents by creating false contents online. And sadly, most of them were trapped in the net of
false future dreams.
Other than that, there were also cases of scammers trying to rob employees online around the
globe. Thousands of fake news on coronavirus gained attention around the world as well.
We accept the fact that yes, covid paused the human life. But this pause comes out to be a
benefit for our Earth.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
This pandemic significantly improved air quality in different parts of the world, reduced harmful gas
emission and lessens water and noise pollution. It has improved the climate of almost all the places on
earth. In turn, it has also increased the medical waste, but that can be sorted easily by implementing
right strategies for the environmental sustainability.
Some sensible decisions during pandemic such as closing of international borders, shut down of
railways, airways and seaways confined pollution and the spread of virus. On an average , world saw an
outstanding 26% downfall in carbon dioxide emission.
During the lockdown phase, wild and domestic animals enjoyed excursion. On the streets of Thailand,
large number of monkey gathered, it looked like a monkey apocalypse. Meanwhile, in London, deer and
sheep invade human territory. A family of lion was seen in India wandering across the streets. And
Peacocks were seen enjoying their vacation in Dubai.
In some cases, covid spread to animals as well, a four year tiger of Bronx zoo in New York was the first
case of animal spreading. And the count raised to 300 animal spreading cases from around the globe.
NASA’s satellite image of earth confirmed a reduced level of NO2 gas over Italy, spain and UK. The only
reason for this epic achievement is strict lockdown.
Lockdown period turns out to be a healing period for our planet. In case of human, self-healing is not an
option for every infection or injury. We need doctors and nurses to care us and strict officers whose
penultimate motive is to ensure safety of each and every citizen.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
No matter, what country it is, it wasn’t an acceptable move by countrymen to follow strict rules of
lockdown imposed by the government. And if people would not bow lockdown and other rules that has
potentials to reduce the rate of infection, we could have lost more than half of the human population.
Credit for this goes to the police officers around the globe. It’s all because of their effort that lockdown
punched impact on the covid pandemic. They were in direct battle with the virus for nearly 10 months.
They might have thought of their own families, but courage and duty stood first and by accepting a false
truth, that, yes, the entire country is my family, they left no stone unturned in our protection.
Alongside,
Doctors, nurses and other medical staffs were appreciated all around the world. They worked restlessly
during the pandemic, they did the best they can to protect the world from the clutches of coronavirus.
Living far away from their families and working nonstop for months is not everyone’s cup of tea. Every
doctor had been assigned to look out to more than 20 patients. Even a single day leave will cost a doctor
life of atleast 10. And this isn’t what doctors are supposed to do. Without the support of nurses and
other medical staffs, it’s not possible for doctors to cure millions around the world every day.
Unfortunately, a fair big number of doctors, nurses, other medical staffs and mid-city soldiers i.e. police
men and women, had went back to heaven after their action marked a big impact on human fight for
surviving covid pandemic.
Besides them, In India, actor Sonu Sood has helped thousands of workers to reach safely to their
families, while, in England, retired captain Tom Moore raised funding for the needies. Captain Tom was
also knighted by the queen of Britain for his efforts amidst the pandemic, before he took his last breath.
Lots of fund raising organizations were also started across the planet to help the needies.
Vaccines to cure the infection have arrived in the market. Vaccines such as covishield and covaxin,
astrazeneca and Pfizer has already started to show its effect, lockdown is picked up, the rate of infection
has lowered down and everyone continues where they left.
Most of the people around the world had lost atleast a family member. That awful viral fella had sent
the globe to a dark world. The world respects the soul of every innocent who lost his/her life in this
global pandemic. But the time had gone and the year 2020 had passed. We can’t bring the past back but
the future is in our hands. So now, let’s work in present, shape our future and change our destiny.
Let’s hope for a bright future ahead.
…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Thank you all to listen to us patiently.
