What do you know about York, San Diego and Toronto? What are they like?
Are they big cities? Are they old and historic places?

York is a beautiful old city in the north-east of
England on the River Ouse. It has about 195,400
inhabitants. It is not far from Leeds. It is a very
interesting place to live. It has many historical
buildings and museums, but it is most famous for
its cathedral, called York Minster.

San Diego is a city in the south of California


on the west coast of the USA, on the Pacific
Ocean. Its population is about 1,307,400. It
is not far from Los Angeles. It has a big

Where is Los Angeles?
This is Los Angeles … or L.A. Los Angeles is in California, and California is one of the fifty

New Zealand is a country in the South Pacific, about 1,500 kilometres south east of
Australia. It has two main islands: North Island and South Island. The capital is
Wellington in the centre of the country, but the main city is Auckland in the north. It

New York
New York is a very big city in the east of the United States. It is at the mouth of the
Hudson River and a large part of the city is on Manhattan Island, a big island in the
river. New York city, founded in 1653, is an old city, but its streets are wide and many
of its buildings are very tall.
Central Park, a big park with lakes and a zoo, is in the middle of Manhattan near the
famous art galleries and museums (the Metropolitan Museum, for example). South of
central park is the downtown area with its famous avenues: Broadway, Fifth Avenue,
etc. This area has many shops and theatres. New York is a very exciting city.
