Amazon'sW Wriitng Sample
You have just scheduled an onsite in-person interview with the Finance Technology team
for a Sr. Software Development Engineer candidate who is traveling in from out-of-state.
The candidate is insisting on flying first class, and Amazon’s policy is to purchase
economy class tickets.
Please write one paragraph to explain your process and a sample email to the candidate
communicating Amazon’s policy.
My Process,
With any candidate that comes on-site to your company, whether they are flying or driving over.,
it is very important to handle the situation as delicately as possible. They are taking the time out
of their schedule to fly over to interview. Also there has been a lot of resources to pull in for this
candidate to interview.
If they are just insisting on it then explain to them about amazon’s candidate travel policies.
I would need to look at amazon’’s travel policies to confirm that all candidates fly economy.
Then I would double check with the recruiter communicating to the candidate, to ask if they
were given any special accommodations. If not, I would ask my manager, if we can make an
exception to fly first class or make any other compromises.
Then, I would directly email the candidate to inform them about Amazon’s candidate travel
policy. Also. with the approval of my manager, I would offer them another service they can
upgrade in to compensate for the expectation,
Hi {Candidate]
Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to come on-site to our campus to interview.
We are sorry to hear that you were looking forward to flying first class to our campus.
Unfortunately, our company candidate travel policy states that all candidates flying in fly
economy. We want you to come fully prepared for the interview as we take care of all your
other expenses for food, ground transportation, hotel,, and parking.
While we are unable to upgrade your flight ticket to first class, I can offer you an upgrade in your
hotel stay. Please let me know if you would like to upgrade your hotel accommodation.
Once again we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Please let me know how
else I can help.
Sincerely,
Shana Rubin
