Inform and Explain

In the past year, i’ve written to these people, organizations and companies:
● My medical insurance company to explain why I needed a vaccine that wasn’t covered under their plan,
● The Sherrif’s office to explain why I wouldn’t be able to appear at jury duty selection that they had assigned
to me,
● My ‘cat sitter’ to explain instructions for taking care of my cats while I was away,
● The circus school where Owen went to let them know about the impact that they have had on him over the
years,
● My phone company to explain why I wanted a refund on an extra charge to my account,
● A teacher of one of my kids to let them know of the struggles that we were having on a topic in their class,
● Kelsey’s restaurant to recommend one of my former students for a job.
● Our Superintendant to explain our frustration over seeing an empty lot for so long at the Eastdale site

The ability to inform and explain through writing are not just skills you need to get through school.

One day, you could very likely be sitting in a job interview and asked to write a response to answer, “Explain why
this company should hire you.” Or writing to your apartment manager to explain that you will be moving out when
your lease expires.
