Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
The concept of teenage awareness on alcohol abuse is very hot topic when it comes to

students. Recent studies focusing on the students who always drink alcohol beverages

because of their curiosity and knowledge about alcohol, they become exposed of

drinking alcohol beverages at not good age and situation.

In recent years, this issue has expanded to include the exploration of the inappropriate

drink of alcoholic beverages by teens and how alcohol beverages usage contributes to

bad behavior and health of our body. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services

Administration or SAMHSA (2015) describes that young people having easy access

to alcohol between ages 12 to 14 had reported that they had used alcohol within the

month prior to the survey got it for free from friends or family or what they found in

their houses.

Our respondents to our survey know what they can get to drinking alcohol beverages

their example is liver cancer. Our survey aware them to be responsible to there self

and have a concern to family and body. The respondents also added that they became

expose to alcohol at the age of 15-17 years old and according to them drinking can

help them to talk bravely about their social and mental problems with their family and

friends. According to Juergens (2019) About 6.5 million of those 10 million underage

drinkers were binge drinkers, and 2 million were heavy drinkers.

Alcohol abuse can destroy are life as a human being because of the disease they can

get through it. According to Harvard Health Publishing (2014) Drinking heavily can

severely damage the liver, stomach, heart, brain, and nervous system. It also increases

the risk of mouth, throat, larynx (vocal box), and esophagus cancer. Women who

drink excessively are more likely to develop breast cancer and osteoporosis.

Additionally, people who drink excessively may not eat properly so they may develop

deficiencies in vitamin and minerals. Our body became weaker and our eating habit

became new because we already expose to drink alcohol.

The parents have also wrong guidance to their child because a lot of research that the

teenagers found it to their homes. Common warning sign of teenage alcoholism

include drinking alone, or insolation hanging out with friends who drink reckless

behavior treating teenage alcoholism underage drinking can expose teen to a litany of

consequences but there is hope if your child show sign of alcoholism.

This study documents voices the teenager and parents in an effort to gain a more in-

depth understanding of not easily expose their child in alcoholic beverages and

understanding of proper ways of using alcoholic beverages and not to forget

problems. If your friends are forcing you to drink leave them because they are not

responsible to there self and doesn’t care what will happen next. The best way is to

create new friend with good hobbies and build your relationship to your family

without alcoholic beverages. Recommendations are also identified to help educators,

clinicians, researchers, and parents engage teens when social problems linked to

teenagers drink alcoholic beverages aware them and use collaborative strategies to

effectively address youths’ needs.

Review of Related Literature

According to Bourne and Fox (1980), alcoholism is a disease by impaired control

over the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The problem of alcoholism worldwide

is very serious. The primary, chronic disease with genetic, psychosocial,

environmental factors influencing its development and manifestations are because of

alcoholism.

Bourne and Fox (1980) added that the use of alcohol by individuals represents the

abuse and their safety and health risk for individuals. The issue is not the problem

between family that have a children or teenager that drinks alcohol, it is the problem

of the country.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration or SAMHSA (2015)

describes that young people having easy access to alcohol between ages 12 to 14 had

reported that they had used alcohol within the month prior to the survey got it for free

from friends or family or what they found in their houses.

It was well explained by Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services

Administrations or SAMHSA (2015) that the risk factors of children that uses alcohol

becomes lower than usual because of parents who are actively involved in their lives

and the avoidance of alcohol beverages abuse in children or teens starts at home.

According to Watkins (2020). The Abuse of alcohol and alcohol within a family is an

issue that can ruin a marriage or drive a wedge between members. Which means

people who drink will blow through their family budget, trigger conflicts, neglect

children and otherwise affect the health and happiness of the people they love. About

60-70 per cent of married couples who get into physical altercations abuse alcohol.

Throughout time, family members may even develop symptoms of co-dependence,

holding the addiction alive unwittingly, even though it does affect them. Family and

recovery counseling will improve.

Watkins (2020) also explained when stated by the National Council on Alcoholism

and Drug Dependence, some of the ways in which problem drinking impacts family

members, employers, friends, fellow students and others are when follows:

•Neglect of important duties

•Needing time to nurse hangovers

•Encountering legal problems

ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE

•The inability to stop at will

Watkins (2020) stated that alcohol aren't safe. Although even the strictest accountant

or budgeter will make an allowance for entertainment expenses, continued drinking

can quickly cause people to spend on socializing beyond their allocation. It is well

established that alcohol abuse can lead to severe financial problems, but not just

because of the actual alcohol money spent.

It was explained by Watkins (2020) that drinking excessively is associated with a host

of health impacts that are likely to require medical attention, such as cardiovascular

diseases, pneumonia, cirrhosis, pancreatitis, and multiple forms of cancer.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, binge drinking results

in health-related costs of $171 billion a year, and lower productivity for workers.

• Incapacity to pay down credit card bills as revenue from work declines

• Increased credit card charges to cover the gap between spending and decreased

income

• Charges for alcohol or alcohol-related activities such as partying or gambling

• Forgetfulness of when to make payments, leading to late fees and other penalties

Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP),

one in every five adult Americans resided with a relative who abused alcohol in their

adolescence.

According to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP),

Children may note dramatic behavioral changes, such as the parent changing from

positive to angry, and may mistakenly believe they are the cause of these mood

swings. Self-blame, guilt, frustration and anger may emerge as the child tries to

understand why this is how the parent acts. According to Smith, Robinson, and

Segal (2019). There are risk factors for developing problems with alcohol arise from

many interconnected factors, including your genetics, how you were raised, your

social environment, and your emotional health. Some racial groups, such as American

Indians and Native Alaskans, are more at risk than others for developing drinking

problems or alcohol addiction. Those with a family history of alcoholism or who are

closely associated with heavy drinkers are more likely to develop drinking problems.

Furthermore, those suffering from a mental health problem such as anxiety,

depression or bipolar disorder are also particularly at risk, as alcohol is often used for

self-medication.

According to Smith, Robinson, and Segal (2019) Alcoholism and alcohol abuse can

affect all aspects of your life. Long-term use of alcohol can cause serious problems in
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE

Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
your health and affect nearly every organ in your body, including your brain.

Drinking an issue can also harm your emotional stability, finances, employment, and

ability to build and maintain successful relationships. Alcohol abuse and alcohol

abuse can also impact the family, friends and the people with whom you associate.

According to Juergens (2019) About 6.5 million of those 10 million underage

drinkers were binge drinkers, and 2 million were heavy drinkers. Methods of

prevention may contribute to lower abuse rates but the current issue is still very real.

Juergens (2019) tells that Underage drinking has an effect not only on the drinker but

on society at large. This is because teens who are intoxicated will make impulsive

decisions about driving under the influence and starting fights, actions that injure or

even kill people.

Some concerns include:

•Brain damage

•Car crashes

•Assaults and sexual activity

•Gender Differences in Teen Drinking

•Risk Factors of Young Drinkers

•Genetics

•External pressure

•Personality

According to Babbit N. (2000) Adolescent drug abuse and chemical dependence,

whatever their drug education, economic level, neighborhood, school or church

attendance, can happen to any teenager. Whether parents are married or divorced, and

no matter how much they learn about good parenting, it can happen. Adolescents are

aware of potential hazards when using drugs or binge on alcohol, but they believe

they are invincible and they will escape the hazards. The average age when teenagers

start drinking is 13; 14.Parents are often the last to hear about the involvement of their

children with alcohol or drugs for the marijuana experiment. Chemical criminals do

everything they can to cover up their use. Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Abuse offers

parents clear information, support, and guidance:

•Understand the disease model of drug abuse, and that it's not your fault

•Overcome family confusion, denial, and excuses to get your child the help he needs

•Find allies in the community to help your child feel the appropriate consequences of

his actions
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE

•Know what to look for in chemical assessment facilities

•See what kind of help can be given your child in treatment

•Gain serenity and happiness for yourself, apart from the outcome of your child's drug

abuse or dependency

•Listen to the voices of dozens of parents and recovering teens and learn that you are

not alone in how this problem profoundly affects your family

According to Newman (2018) Alcoholism, now known as alcohol use disorder, is a

disease in which a person has a crave to drink alcohol, even though it has a bad

impact on their life.

According to Newman (2018) A person with this disorder has been referred to as an

"alcoholic" in the past, though this is mostly seen as an unhelpful and harmful label.

Health care professionals now say a person has a problem with alcohol use.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), in 2015, 15.1 million American

adults (6.2 percent of the population) had an alcohol use problem.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), globally, 3.3 million deaths

every year result from the harmful use of alcohol.

ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE
10
Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) describes alcohol

use disorder as "serious problem drinking." A person with this condition does not

know when to stop drinking or how to do so. They spend a lot of time talking about

alcohol, so they can't control their intake, even if it's harmful.

Some signs and symptoms of AUD include:

•drinking alone or in secret

•not being able to limit how much alcohol is consumed

•blacking out and not being able to remember chunks of time

•having rituals and being irritated if someone else comments on these rituals, for

example, drinks before, during, or after meals, or after work

•losing interest in hobbies that were previously enjoyed

•feeling an urge to drink

•feeling irritable when drinking times approach, especially if alcohol is not, or may

not be, available

•storing alcohol in unlikely places

•gulping drinks down in order to feel good

ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE
11
Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
•having problems with relationships, the law, finances, or work that stem from

drinking

•needing more alcohol to feel its effect

•experiencing nausea, sweating, or shaking when not drinking

According to Newman (2018) Drinking alcohol becomes a problem when it takes

precedence over all other activities. Dependency can take many years to grow. The

drug abuse related issues are severe. The results can be physical, social and

psychological. Drinking alcohol usually at first increases a person's mood.

Newman (2018) added that a person who has drunk excessive amounts of alcohol for

a long time, however, is likely to get sedated when they drink. Complications of this

disorder may include loss of memory, uncertainty, mental health issues and work or

home life issues. That is because the nervous system is affected by the drug.

Newman (2018) explained that Alcohol can undermine a judgment on a person. It

can reduce inhibitions, and alter the thoughts, emotions, and general behavior of the

drinker. Strong regular drinking can significantly affect a person's ability to

coordinate and talk well with their muscles. Heavy binge drinking can result in a

coma.

Eventually heavy drinking regularly can cause at least one of the following problems:
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE

Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
•Fatigue

•Memory loss

•Eye muscles

•Liver diseases

•Gastrointestinal complications

•Hypertension

•Heart problems

•Diabetes

•Disrupt Menstruation

•Erectile dysfunction

•Fetal alcohol syndrome

•Thinning bones

•Nervous system problems

•Cancer

•Accidents

•Domestic abuse

•Work or school problems

•Suicide

•Mental illness

• Problems with the law

The following are recognized treatment options for alcoholism:

•Do-it-yourself

•Counseling

•Treating underlying problems

•Residential programs

•Drug that provokes a severe reaction to alcohol

•Drugs for cravings

•Detoxification

•Abstinence

•Alcoholics Anonymous

According to Harvard Health Publishing (2014) Alcohol abuse is the second most

common form of substance abuse, after tobacco addiction, in the United States. Many

individuals are affected more seriously than others.

According to Harvard Health Publishing (2014) If drinking causes distress or damage

to a person, it is considered an alcohol-use disorder. An approximate 10% of adult

males and 5% of adult females have an alcohol-use disorder. Their alcohol use leads

to health issues or disruptions at home, at work, at school or with the law. Many of

them have lost control of their drinking; given significant negative health

consequences and the loss of important activities or relationships, they are unable to

quit or cut back.

According to Harvard Health Publishing (2014) Drinking heavily can severely

damage the liver, stomach, heart, brain, and nervous system. It also increases the risk

of mouth, throat, larynx (vocal box), and esophagus cancer. Women who drink

excessively are more likely to develop breast cancer and osteoporosis. Additionally,

people who drink excessively may not eat properly so they may develop deficiencies

in vitamin and minerals.

According to BUDDY T. (2014) Underage drinking has actually been steadily

declining for decades in the United States, but it is still prevalent enough to be a
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE
15
Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
major public health concern. For some students, drinking alcohol is their only

behavioral problem, but for others, drinking goes along with other problem behaviors

linked to unconventionality, impulsiveness, and sensation seeking. Boys from 6 to 17

with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and who had weak social

relationships were significantly more likely to have severe alcohol use disorders four

years later. those without anxiety disorders. College students with drinking problems

were four times as likely to have a major depressive disorder. Parents are the single

most important influence on their children's decision to become involved in substance

abuse or not. Studies show that parents who drink or express favorable attitudes about

drinking are linked to their children initiating alcohol consumption and continuing to

drink. The higher legal drinking age immediately prompted a decrease in underage

drinking and a decrease in drinking and driving as well as alcohol-related highway

fatalities.

Buddy T. (2014) added that Underage drinking is linked not only to increased risky

sexual behavior but also increased vulnerability to coerced sex. Adolescents who

drink are more likely to have sex before age 16, more likely to have sex while they

are drinking and less likely to practice safe sex after drinking Several studies have

found that early-onset drinking is linked to the risk of greater substance abuse

problems later in life. The earlier a child begins to drink alcohol, the greater the

problems he or she will face in adulthood, not only with substance abuse but with
ST. MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC SCHOOL PAGE
16
Norzagaray, Bulacan Pag
meeting important life goals such as education and careers. Therefore, it is important

for parents and for society to do everything possible to prevent the initiation of

childhood drinking. Laws and policies will only work so far, the real work begins in

the home within the family.

According to Muray (2010) Teanage alcoholism is tragically common problem that

result in thousand of death every year. The recognizing signs of teenage alcoholism is

often thought of as and common problem. Alcohol is the most commonly abused

substance globally by individuals under the age of 21. Teens who drink cite reasons

such as thinking it was cool waning to fit in Seeing parents drinks wanting to feel

more comfortable around fiends proving one’s self to others feeling pressure.

Common warning sign of teenage alcoholism include dringking alone,or insolation

hanging out with friends who drink reckless behavior treating teenage alcoholism

underage drinking can expose teen to a litany of consequences but there is hope if

your child show sign of alcoholism.

Muray (2010) Studies have revealed that brain waves caused by a response to

specific can predict the risk of alcoholism. Behavior in early childhood have also be

found to be predictors of later drinking problems. Boy from 6 to 17 with attention

deficit hyper activity discover and who had weak social relationships were

significantly more likely to have.
