Module in TLE 8: Electrical hand tools and equipment’s

Objectives
a. Identify the different electrical hand tools
b. Describe the function and uses of electrical tools under boring, soldering and
measuring classification
c. Show active participation in discussing the classification and function of tools used in
electrical installation and maintenance
d. Classify tools according to its specification, uses and function
Most Essential Learning Competencies:
Prepare electrical materials and tools for the task
Prepare a list of electrical tools and materials for a specific job

Week 2
I. INTRODUCTION
Electrical tasks can be accomplished systematically to save time, effort, and Resources.
Most of the work cannot be done using bare hands. To do the task, electrical tools or
equipment are needed to perform the job. This lesson will discuss the function/use of
each tool or equipment used in electrical wiring installations.

PRE-ASSESMENT
WHAT YOU KNOW

II. DEVELOPMENT

Basic Electrical Hand Tools and Equipment

E. Boring Tools
Portable Electric Drill - A small drilling machine with a chuck capacity of ¼ to 3/8 inch. It
is used in making holes on metal sheets and concrete walls.

Gimlet – This is a wire like boring tool used in

making initial holes for split knob screw

F. Soldering Tools

Soldering Iron – This is used to solder connecting wires.

DE soldering Tool/Pump – This is used for removing soldered wires.

Soldering Tool Stand – is a place where the soldering iron is placed during usage.

H. Measuring Tools
Micrometer – This is used to measure diameter and
thickness of cables, wires or conductors.

Push-pull rule – used to measure the length of an object in

centimeter and inches. This is also used to measure heights
for switches and outlets.

Ruler/Foot rule - used to measure length, width, and

thickness of short flat objects and to draw straight lines.

Wire Gauge – This is a slotted circular disk used to find the

diameter or size of an electrical wire.
Other tools:
Reamer – This is used for removing burrs on
newly cut conduits. It is available in different sizes.
VOCABULARY WORDS
Burr – a blank punched out of a piece of sheet metal. Conduit – a pipe or tube for
protecting electric wires or cables.

Cutting of Electrical Conduit

Flat File – This is used for removing burrs in conduits.
Fish Wire – This is a special flexible steel wire used for pulling the conductors in
conduits.
