1. Read Matthew 5:3-12. What are “beatitudes”? In what ways do these beatitudes go contrary
to expectation?

3. Read Matthew 5:29-30. What does Jesus tell his disciples to do in these verses? Do you think
it is meant to be literal?
4. Read Matthew 5:39. What does it mean to “turn the other cheek”? Read Matthew 5:44.
How does Jesus say that one should treat his enemies?
5. Read Matthew 6:9-13. What relationship did Jesus say believers have with God? What does
“hallowed” mean? What did Jesus say believers are to ask for?

disciples? Why?
21. Read John 6:51-59. What does Jesus say that they must eat and drink? What do you think
he meant by that? Was he being literal? What result does say comes of this eating and drinking?
