POSITION PAPER
Should the society accept the LGBT Community?
Every living thing on earth are created equally. Likewise, everybody has the right to
express theirselves as much as they want to. No one was given the right to think wrongly on
what is right for other people’s life. The moment a person came out in this world, they are
already part of the human race. But some people just don’t get it and this always results to
discrimination and arguments. One of the topics that gets a lot of questioning is about the
acceptance or rejection of the LGBT community or the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgenders.
Majority of people would refuse to the idea of accepting the LGBT community but
there aren’t any valid reasons to go against them. Many people are being left out just because
of what they are, who they love, and how they look and that is not right. There is more to
everything than meets the eye so no one must judge. Eventhough being part of this
community does not seem normal, they are still human. What is wrong of accepting someone
who are brave enough to come out of their shells? Truthfully, admitting that you have a
sexual preference that is different from ordinary, is an extremely difficult thing. It takes a lot
of courage for someone to finally come out and it is very wrong to put someone’s courage in
vain. In a survey of LGBT adults, it is said that, “About 39 percent said that at some point in
their lives, they were rejected by a family member or close friend because of their sexual
orientation or gender identity.” This type of situations causes emotional devastation and
some of them restricts them self to come out because of the fear of rejection. One thing that a
society must achieve is equality but in order to achieve it, discrimination must stop, which is
something everyone is struggling with.
However, if someone has the urge to prevent and stop LGBT community from
spreading, I honestly think that it’s no longer possible. There is now a huge increase in the
LGBT population and they are finally out to show the world their true colors. Those
rainbow-minded people are brave enough to come out and they are fighting for their rights. It
is a good thing because all they wanted to gain was acceptance from each and everyone of
us. And for some reason, the society today are much more open to LGBT members.
Moreover, the United States already acknowledged them and even accepted same sex
marriage. This might sound incorrect to most people because it defies God but come on, we
must stop using the Bible in attacking them. That is just too cruel and they don’t deserve that.
It is not their fault if one day their tastes change and they just want to be a unicorn sliding on
the rainbow. Each of us have a choice and that is what they picked. We just need to be
considerate.
All in all, they might be not normal to some people but they also need to feel the
feeling of being accepted and the feeling of belonging. Furthermore, everyone in this world
deserves to be happy and free but that won’t be possible if people kept on pushing them
away. Let’s just spread love because that is how it’s supposed to be. Stop hating and try
understanding their deep feelings. It’s just a matter of understanding and acceptance.
