Proper Procedures in
Adjusting Accessories
Introductory Message

For the Facilitator:

Welcome to the Technology and Livelihood Education – CSS 9 Self-Learning Module

on Proper Procedures in Adjusting Accessories!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed by its
Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou Concepcion A.
Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig through its mayor,
Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized the standards set by the K
to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) in
developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also aims to help learners
acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5 Cs, namely: Communication,
Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and Character while taking into
consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the
body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while allowing them to
manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to encourage and assist the
learners as they do the tasks included in the module.
For the Learner:

LESSON

Introduction

A clamp is a fastening device that use to hold or secure objects tightly

together to prevent movement or separation through the application of
inward pressure. This is useful when holding or attaching materials together, such
as wood, paper, plastic or certain metals. There are many types of clamps available
for many different purposes. However, most types are built to be used temporary but
there are permanent models available.

Proper Procedures in Adjusting Accessories

Here are the different types of adjusting accessories:

1. Screw clamps - this is consisting of a band either galvanized or stainless steel,

which a screw thread pattern is being cut or pressed. One end of the tip of the
band has a captive screw. It is put to the house or tube to be connected, with the
loose end being fed into a narrow space between the band and the captive screw.
The clamp is put around the hose or tube to be connected, having the loose end
being fed into a narrow space between the band and the captive screw. If the
screw is turned, it acts as a worm drive pulling the threads of the band that cause
the band to tighten around the hose (or when screwed the opposite direction, to
loosen) this is used for hoses ½ inch diameter and up, the other clamps used for
smaller hoses.

2. Spring clamps - To use the clamp, the exposed tabs are pressed towards each
other using pliers, and increase the diameter of the ring, the clamp is slid onto
the hose, past the portion that will go onto the barb. The hose is then fit onto
the barb, the clamp expanded again, slid onto the portion of the hose over the
barb, then released, compressing the hose onto the barb.

3. Wire clamps - this is a piece of heavy wire, and made of steel, bent into a tight U,
next formed into a ring shape with one end overlapping the other, and last the
ends bent outwards and cut. A nut is attached to one end, and a screw is
attached to other end. If the screw is tightened, the overlapped ends of the
wire are pushed apart, tighten the wire loop around the hose.

4. Ear Clamps- this is consists into one or more “ears” or close elements have been
formed. The clamp is placed at the end of the hose or tube to be connected
and each ear is closed at the base of the ear with a special pincer tool, it
permanently deforms, pulling the band, and causing the band to tighten
around the hose. The size of clamp should be chosen such that the ear are
almost completely closed on installation.

How to Tighten Hose Clamps

1. To open the hose clamp by turning the driver counter clockwise, have a flat-
head screwdriver or a hex wrench, then turn it until the clamp comes apart.

2. The hose that will be fastening must slip over the hose clamp. Slide the hose
and the clamp into position over them.

3. Turn the clamp so that you have easy access to the driver.

4. In one hand, squeeze the clamp, the end opposite the driver slides into the
sleeve holding the driver.

5. With the use of the screwdriver or wrench, turn the driver clockwise so the
threads on the driver engage the slots on the clamp. Continue turning the
driver until the clamps tightens around the hose securely.

How to Use the Clamptite Tool

Single Wrap Application Procedures:

Step 1
a. Insert the end of wire into left hand side front pin.
b. The wire must bring over its nose and in front of forward pin on the right
hand side.
c. Wrap wire around hose as many wraps as possible.
d. Bring wire over the top of the wraps and around the rear pin on the right hand
side, then take wire over the top of the tool and around the pin on the left
hand side.

Step 2
a. Continue to wrap around in the same direction; tuck thru loop again and remove
tape or wire nut
b. Place the tool with wire over front pin and around rear pin.
c. Then twist ends together tightly about 6 twists times as close to the body of the
tool as much as possible.
