A. Review
Before we proceed to our lesson for today, do you recall what you have learned yesterday?
What part of speech refers to a person, animal, places, things, ideas, or events?

Correct! Give me two examples of a name of an animal.

B. Motivation
Class, I have here in my hand a list of words. And, I had written a table with five (5) columns (persons,
things, places, animals, events) in the blackboard. If you believe that this word is a name of person, then
place this to it's column (person) and the same with others.

Class, I have here some examples of nouns. I want you to look closely to them and then tell me how do
they differ to each other.

As you notice, the nouns I have shown you differ in the way they are written. Some starts with a big
letter while the others with a small letter. Another difference is that some have their own names while
the others do not have.
Our lesson for today is all about the two kinds of noun: proper noun and common noun.
Proper nouns
are the specific or particular name of person, place, animal and things.
Example: Gabbi Garcia, Philippines, Mongol, Bantay, San Vicente Elementary School, etc.
Common nouns
are the general or generic name of person, place, animal and things.
Common noun is usually in a small letter and only capitalized if it is part of a title or it is used in the
beginning of sentence.
What are the two kinds of nouns that we discussed today, class?
