Detailed Lesson Plan in English III

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. Identify the proper and common nouns.

b. Appreciate the use of proper and common nouns in their life.

c. Match the proper noun with it's common noun

Values Integration: Giving importance of applying small and capital letters on the beginning of each
names, things, or ideas.

Good morning, class!

-Good morning, Ma'am.

Before we proceed to our lesson for today, do you recall what you have learned yesterday?

What part of speech refers to a person, animal, places, things, ideas, or events?

-Noun, Ma'am.

Very Good! Give me one example of a name of a Person.

-Jasmin, Ma'am.
Correct! Give me two examples of a name of an animal.

-Dog, Ma'am.

-Tiger, Ma'am.

Excellent! Give me three examples of a name of your favorite places?

-Paris, Ma'am.

-Japan, Ma'am.

-Korea, Ma'am.

B. Motivation

Class, I have here in my hand a list of words. And, I had written a table with five (5) columns (persons,
things, places, animals, events) in the blackboard. If you believe that this word is a name of person, then
place this to it's column (person) and the same with others.

C. Presentation of the Lesson

Class, I have here some examples of nouns. I want you to look closely to them and then tell me how do
they differ to each other.

As you notice, the nouns I have shown you differ in the way they are written. Some starts with a big
letter while the others with a small letter. Another difference is that some have their own names while
the others do not have.

They are the examples of proper and common nouns.

D. Development of the Lesson

Our lesson for today is all about the two kinds of noun: proper noun and common noun.

Proper nouns

are the specific or particular name of person, place, animal and things.

Proper noun is always capitalized or begin with Capital letter.

Example: Gabbi Garcia, Philippines, Mongol, Bantay, San Vicente Elementary School, etc.

Common nouns

are the general or generic name of person, place, animal and things.

Common noun is usually in a small letter and only capitalized if it is part of a title or it is used in the
beginning of sentence.

Example: actress, country, pencil, dog, school, etc.


E. Generalization

What are the two kinds of nouns that we discussed today, class?

-Proper noun and common noun, Ma'am.

What is a proper noun?

-It is the specific or particular name of person, place, animal and things, Ma'am.

What is a common noun?

-It is the general or generic name of person, place, animal and things, Ma'am.
