Answer Sheet Module 4

The document discusses a student's answers to questions about a map showing the distribution of earthquakes around the world. The student notes that most earthquakes are located at the edges of tectonic plates and along coastal lines. Earthquakes tend to be more frequent and concentrated in areas with higher levels of tectonic plate movement and activity.

Module 4: MAP OF THE EARTHQUAKE DISTRIBUTION

TRY THIS
 How necessary is it, for us to know about earthquakes, its nature, its effects, and its origins?
It is necessary, because first is the location of our land. Which is at a high risk of having natural
calamities such as earthquakes. Studying it can be helpful for us to know the nature and origin of
these. From our experiences of these calamities, we can say and conclude the things that we need
to do to lessen the effects.
DO IT!
1. I think this is because of the location of the faults and the plates in a specific place.
2. It suggests that the lithosphere is continuously moving. It tells us that earthquake can happen to any
place considering the location of the fault in its plate.

LET’S MARK BOUNDARIES (Map of the Earthquake Distribution)

Questions:
1. How are earthquakes distributed on the map?
On the map, I can say that the distribution of the earthquakes scattered but it is on the same
location. Mostly, on coastal lines or edges of the plates.
2. Where are they located?
They are located mostly at the edge of the plates in the map.
3. Where are there no earthquakes?
There are no earthquakes on some parts of the ocean as seen in the map.
4. Why is it important for us to identify areas which are prone to earthquakes?
It is important for us to identify areas which are prone to earthquakes for us to know if the place
that we are living is safe or not. Also, knowing these prone areas can help us to think of a plan of
the things we need to do when an earthquake happen.
B.
1) What do the spots represent?
The spots represent the magnitude of the earthquakes occurred.
2) Is there a trend in the location of these earthquake activities?
Yes, most of the earthquakes are found on the edge of the plates.
3) How are earthquakes related to tectonic activities?
The movement of the tectonic plates causes these earthquakes.
4) What inferences can we make regarding earthquake magnitude, frequency or concentration based
on the picture above?
The magnitude of earthquakes are usually varying. And it is more frequent on the plate
boundaries.

APPLY WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED

The movement of the plates.

The location of the place.

Record of earthquakes in that place.

DO IT!
1. It is because of the location of the Philippines which is in the Pacific Ring of Fire which is full of active
volcanoes.
2. It suggests that the movement of the lithosphere is continuous. The geographical location of the
Philippines have a lot of active volcanoes. It tells us that because of the sudden move of plates in the
country different concentration of earthquakes are formed.
EXPLORE
1. Based on the map, areas with high risk are mostly on Luzon and Mindanao. Medium risks are some
parts of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Low risks are mostly on Visayas.
2. Mostly places with active volcanoes and located on plate boundaries have high risks of earthquake.
3. We can infer that Philippines is greatly affected by these earthquakes especially those places with high
risks. Maybe there is already a fault originated from Mindanao.

For the last time share your insights and queries.

Things I’ve learned today are all about earthquakes. How they we’re form and the factors that can affect their
formation and the concentration of these. I also learned about the places in the Philippines that has a high risk of
earthquakes. Lastly, I learned about where earthquakes usually form.
I wish to ask about the types of earthquakes that usually occur in a certain place.
