Communication Differences
 RSView32
 Uses RSLinx Classic – OPC/DDE server for communications with controllers
 RSView32 cannot use RSLinx Enterprise
 All data is stored as tag value in HMI tag database
 Memory tags – store data for use in expressions or for display, not connected to a controller value
 Device tags – connected to a controller value
 FactoryTalk View SE
 RSLinx Enterprise/FactoryTalk Linx – uses FT Live Data to communicate with controllers
 Data can also be stored as a tag value in HMI tag database
 Can use Memory tags and Device tags
 Direct reference tags – not part of the tag database, is a direct connection between display object
and a value in controller

Add-ons and FactoryTalk View SE
 RSView32 Messenger – alarm annunciation, paging, messaging tools
 Replaced by Win-911 software from Specter Instruments
 www.win911.com
 If you have RSView32 Messenger, ask your distributor about the StepForward program
 RSView32 SPC – Integrated, real-time Statistical Process Control
 Integrate FactoryTalk View SE with FactoryTalk Historian SE and FactoryTalk VantagePoint
to achieve SPC functionality
 RSView32 WebServer – provides snapshot views of graphic displays, tags and alarms through any
standard browser
 FactoryTalk ViewPoint lets you view live displays using an Internet browser

Add-ons and FactoryTalk View SE
 TrendX
 Was a separate install with RSView32
 Installed with FactoryTalk View SE
 With FTView SE 9.0 and up, now have TrendPro object
 eSignature (RSView32 signature button)
 Must be manually recreated in FTView SE
 RecipePro
 Will not be converted; not compatible with the FactoryTalk View SE object model
 Use FactoryTalk View native Recipes, or RecipePro+ in 9.0 and up
 Add-ons/extensions
 Most RSView32 add-ons/extensions have a replacement, you will have to evaluate options

What doesn’t convert?
 Users and Security
 Users are not converted to FactoryTalk View SE – will need to create them manually
 Security codes A-P are brought over
 VBA
 If your project uses VBA, evaluate what the VBA does – is it needed?
 Need to determine how to best implement client-side VBA in FactoryTalk View SE
 May be able to reuse some code, but not likely all
 Starting in FTView SE v11, tag database object model is exposed to VBA to help ease VBA
migration

For details on VBA migration, see Knowledge Base AID 51770

What doesn’t convert?
 Most ActiveX Controls
 Determine which ActiveX controls are used in your RSView32 project
 Use the Project documenter to do this
 Install and register ActiveX controls on the FTView SE machine before migration, otherwise
the control and it’s property settings will not be migrated
 Certain ActiveX controls may not function as they did in RSView32
 RSView32 Trend is unsupported
 Determine whether you need to re-create functionality

 Do I have to migrate – is RSView32 going away?
 No – RSView32 will be supported as long as 32-bit OS’s are available
 RSView32 7.60 supports Windows 7 32-bit
 No plans for supporting 64-bit OS’s
 If moving to 64-bit system, migrate to FactoryTalk View SE or use virtualization
