WORDS OF WELCOME
Please stand as you are able

CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Psalm 118:19-24)

P Open to me the gates of righteousness that I may enter, and give
thanks to the Lord.
All We will give You thanks, for You have answered us; You have
become our salvation.
P The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.
All This is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.
P This is the day that the Lord has made;
All We will rejoice and be glad in it. Hosanna! Blessed is the one who
comes in the name of the Lord!

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS

P Blessed be the holy Trinity,  one God, the keeper of the covenant,
the source of steadfast love, our rock and our redeemer.
All Amen
P God hears us when we cry, and draws us close in Jesus Christ. Let us
return to the one who is full of compassion.
Silence for reflection
P Fountain of living water,
All pour out your mercy over us. Our sin is heavy, and we long to be
free. Rebuild what we have ruined and mend what we have torn.
Wash us in your cleansing flood. Make us alive in the Spirit to
follow in the way of Jesus, as healers and restorers of the world
you so love. Amen.

3
P Beloved, God’s word never fails. The promise rests on grace: by the
saving love of Jesus Christ, the wisdom and power of God, your sins
are  forgiven, and God remembers them no more. Journey in the
way of Jesus.
All Amen!

OPENING HYMN……..… Lead Me to the Cross

A reminder about singing. It is fine to hum or sing quietly “under your breath” but
loud boisterous singing is discouraged. Please sing along quietly or pray as our
musicians lead us.
Verse 1: Savior I come, quiet my soul, Remem-ber
Redemption's hill, Where Your blood was spilled, For my ran-som

Pre-Chorus: Ev’rything I once held dear, I count, it all, as loss

Chorus: Lead me to the cross, Where Your love poured out

Bring me to my knees, Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to You
Oh lead__ me, lead me to the cross

Verse 2: You were as I, tempted and tried, hu-man

The word became flesh, Bore my sin and death
Now You're ri-sen

Pre-Chorus: Ev’rything I once held dear, I count, it all, as loss

Chorus: Lead me to the cross, Where Your love poured out

Bring me to my knees, Lord I lay me down
Rid me of myself, I belong to You

APOSTOLIC GREETING:
P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the
communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all!
All And also with you.
4
PRAYER OF THE DAY
P Let us pray. Everlasting God, in your endless love for the human race
you sent our Lord Jesus Christ to take on our nature and to suffer
death on the cross. In your mercy enable us to share in his obedience
to your will and in the glorious victory of his resurrection, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
All Amen.

SHARING THE PEACE:

P Forgiven by Christ and at peace with God, we are called to love one
another and to share that peace with each other. The peace of the
Lord be with you.
All And also with you.

Tell the Story!

READING: A Reading from Philippians 2:5-11
Christ did not act to attain status and glory but was obedient to God even to the
point of death. Following Christ’s example, we do not seek personal status or
glory but care for others as God cared for us in Christ’s death.
Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in
the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to
the point of death—even death on a cross.
Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above
every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven
and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Reader The Word of the Lord All Thanks be to God

GOSPEL: Mark 11:1-11

P The Holy Gospel according to Mark, beginning in the 14th chapter .
All Glory to you, O Lord.
When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near
the Mount of Olives, [Jesus] sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go
into the village ahead of you, nd immediately as you enter it, you will find
tied there a colt that has never been ridden; untie it and bring it. If anyone
says to you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it and
will send it back here immediately.’ ” They went away and found a colt tied
5
near a door, outside in the street. As they were untying it, some of the
bystanders said to them, “What are you doing, untying the colt?” They told
them what Jesus had said; and they allowed them to take it. Then they
brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it; and he sat on it.
Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy
branches that they had cut in the fields. Then those who went ahead and
those who followed were shouting,
“Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our ancestor David! Hosanna in the
highest heaven!”
Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple; and when he had
looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany
with the twelve.
P The Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ.

Blessing of Palms
Lift palm branches and hands for prayer
P We praise and thank you, O God, for the great acts of love by which
you have saved us through your Son, Jesus Christ. On this day he
entered the holy city of Jerusalem in triumph, and was proclaimed
King of kings. They scattered their garments and branches of palm in
his path. We ask that you bless these branches and we who bear
them. Help us to proclaim Christ in this community. May these palm
branches and our palms serve you. Grant that that we may ever praise
and proclaim Christ and follow him with perfect confidence. We pray
in Jesus’ name.
All Amen

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

P: On this Sunday of the Passion, we pray for all in need, responding to
each petition with words from today’s psalm, “save us in your steadfast
love.” We pray for the church, the world, and all people according to
their need.
A brief silence.

P: O God of majesty, mercy and might, hear and heed our fervent
prayers: for the church around the world, that the faithful be nourished
by your presence in the word, for bishops, pastors, and deacons, that
they be strengthened for their tasks of ministry; for those who are
connecting to worship in person and those online. O holy God, we pray
to you:
C: save us in your steadfast love.

P: For peace throughout the world; for an end to terrorism and religious
violence; for all elected leaders, that they serve the common good. O
mighty God, we pray to you:
C: save us in your steadfast love.

P: For the countries hardest hit by the coronavirus; for the fearful and the
sick and their families; for medical personnel and hospitals. O
compassionate God, we pray to you:
C: save us in your steadfast love.
7
P: For those whose needs we know, for those whose needs are hidden;
for all who are sick, for the hungry, for the dying; for those we name
here, aloud or in our hearts… O benevolent God, we pray to you:
C: save us in your steadfast love.

P: With thanks for this Holy Week; with thanks for the support of our
community of faith; with thanks for the saints who struggled through
life and died in you; we praise your salvation now and unto our end O
eternal God, we pray to you:
C: save us in your steadfast love.

P: Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray,
trusting in your mercy, through the merits of Jesus Christ, our Savior
and Lord.
C: Amen

LORD'S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come,
thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen

Meal for Disciples

If you desire to receive communion, please take the individual glass from your
bag and hold it up.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER (Prayer of blessing at the table)

P Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord, heaven and earth are full of your
glory. In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son, who reached out
to heal the sick and suffering, who preached good news to the poor,
and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all.
8
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and
gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to
drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you
and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension, we
await his coming in glory. Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O
Lord, and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food, the body
and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord; to whom, with you and the Holy
Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

You may quickly eat and drink beneath the mask, then replace your mask.

Sending

POST COMMUNION PRAYER

All: Amen.

Christ Jesus. God, the creator,  Jesus, the Christ, and the Holy
Spirit, the comforter, bless you and keep you in eternal love.
