COMPANY HISTORY

Our History
Hyatt was founded by Jay Pritzker in 1957 when he purchased the Hyatt House motel adjacent to the Los
Angeles International Airport. Over the following decade, the Pritzker family business interests grew the
company into a North American management and hotel ownership company, which became a public
company in 1962. In 1968, Hyatt International was formed and subsequently became a separate public
company. Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International Corporation were taken private by the Pritzker family
business interests in 1979 and 1982, respectively. On December 31, 2004, substantially all of the hospitality
assets owned by the Pritzker family business interests, including Hyatt Corporation and Hyatt International
Corporation, were consolidated under a single entity, now named Hyatt Hotels Corporation.

Committed to Our Communities

At Hyatt, we’re committed to making a positive and lasting impact in every community in which we operate.
We do this by demonstrating a strong commitment to preserving our natural environment through Hyatt
Earth, by giving back to the local community through Hyatt Community, and with the volunteer services of
our associates through Hyatt's Family of Responsible and Caring Employees (F.O.R.C.E.).

HYATT EARTH

Our Philosophy
At Hyatt, we believe that part of our commitment to making a difference in the lives of our guests and
colleagues is caring for the environment and the communities we all share. We embrace this responsibility
as a global citizen and believe that operational sustainability and environmental preservation are wholly
compatible with our goals of serving our guests and our business partners.
Our Commitment
We recognize that our hotels have an impact on the planet. Our global sustainability program, Hyatt Earth, is
a long-term commitment to reduce our environmental footprint by:

• Promoting a culture of environmental awareness and engagement.

• Reducing our consumption of energy and water and our emissions of greenhouse gases.
• Minimizing our waste by recycling and re-using resources to the greatest extent possible.
• Engaging our global supply chain to help them reduce their own environmental footprint
• Implementing sustainable elements into the design and development of our hotels.

Our Initiatives
We believe that environmental stewardship is a shared responsibility. That’s why we engage and motivate
our colleagues around the world with programs that increase awareness and knowledge, empowering them
to drive initiatives at the local level. As a result, we have:

• Green Teams in all full-service hotels that collaborate and share sustainable practices through a
global communication hub.
• A global training program that provides practical tools for reducing waste and increasing water and
energy efficiency.
• Hyatt’s Sustainable Design and Construction Criteria that provides guidance on integrating
sustainable elements into our new and existing building designs.
• A global database that monitors energy and water consumption across our full-service hotels. In
2009, this tool was enhanced to track carbon emissions, waste generation, and recycling by hotel.

Our Progress
We know that by encouraging a culture of environmental awareness, conservation and innovation as well as
applying sustainable practices, we have:

• Achieved a 3% reduction in our consumption of energy and our carbon emissions since 2007.
These reductions have prevented over 40,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from
entering our atmosphere.
• Achieved a 5% reduction in our consumption of water since 2007.
• Established practices for recycling paper and cardboard in 83% of our full-service hotels. 73% of
our hotels recycle plastic.
• Opened our first LEED Silver certified hotel. Hyatt at Olive 8 in Seattle features a green rooftop,
utilizes 20 percent less power, 32 percent less water and had 95% of construction materials
diverted from landfills.
• Implemented solar panels in four of our properties – Hyatt Regency Scottsdale at Gainey Ranch,
the Grand Hyatt Dubai, Grand Hyatt Kauai and the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.
• Integrated environmentally friendly products and services into our North American hotels, including
amenity bottles and key cards made from recycled plastic, paperless check-in and biodegradable
valet bags.

Through purposeful action, a commitment to achieving measurable results and the thoughtful application of
our core values of respect, integrity and innovation we will continue on our journey to sustainability.

Supporting Local Volunteerism

From providing meals to homeless shelters to mentoring schoolchildren, Hyatt's Family of Responsible and
Caring Employees (F.O.R.C.E.) program allows associates to participate in local volunteer efforts on paid
company time. Since F.O.R.C.E. launched in 1990, associates have spent more than 900,000 hours
volunteering for more than 400 community organizations throughout the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean.

Awarding Nonprofit Grants

We believe our company’s success can be attributed to both our tradition of outstanding hospitality and our
belief in giving back to our local communities. That’s why we established Hyatt Community. This company-
wide philanthropic program awards grants to nonprofit groups that support youth development and
education as well as organizations that improve the environment in the communities where we live and
work.

Funding for Hyatt Community is provided by the Global Hyatt Foundation through a contribution from the
Pritzker Foundation.
