THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL RELICS
IN BINH THUY DISTRICT
Binh Thuy District is established
according to the Decree No 05/2004/ND-CP by the Government and currently consists of 08 ward with the natural area of 7,068.23 ha, the population of more than 120,000 people. Being well-known as “the scared land with extraordinary people” located on Hau River, this is one of the central districts of Can Tho City with day-to-day socio-economic-cultural development following the industrialization and modernization. The district has recognized 8 historical and cultural relics namely:
1. Hoi Linh Pagoda Historical Relic.
2. Valedictorian Bui Huu Nghia Grave Historical Relic. 3. Nam Nha Pagoda Historical Relic (Nam Nha Duong). 4. Binh Thuy Communal House Art and Architectural Relic. 5. Hau Giang-Based Special Mission of An Nam Communist Party Historical Relic. 6. Duong Family Temple Art and Architectural Relic (Binh Thuy Ancient House). 7. Long Quang Pagoda Art Relic (Long Quang Co Tu) 8. Can Tho-based Spring 1968 Uprising Command Base Historical and Cultural Relic (Vuon Man Base) In addition, there are also many eco-tourism garden houses, Pho Tho-Ba Bo Ornamental Flower Trade Village. I would like to introduce to you some the historical and cultural relics in Binh Thuy. Valedictorian Bui Huu Nghia Grave Historical Relic
Located on Huynh Man Dat , Bui Huu Nghia Ward,
Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City. Bui Huu Nghia with the pen-name of Nghi Chi (1807-1872), was the outstanding child of Long Tuyen Village, now Binh Thuy District, Can Tho City. In 1835, he passed the first laureate at the first-degree examination at Gia Dinh Examination Compound and since then his name was well-known throughout the six provinces of the South. He was nominated to be District Chief of Phuoc Chanh District, Phuoc Long, Bien Hoa Province and then the District Chief of Tra Vang District (Tra Vinh), Vinh Long, he was an upright and honest mandarin who was loved by the people and famous through Lang The Ditch Case in 1848. He was also model teacher, physician, poet, writer, famous Tuong composer in the South at the end of XIX Century. His works have deep human values with important and considered contributions to the literature of the country. Annually, his death anniversary is held on Lunar January 21st when many people come to offer the incenses commemorate the great merit of Valedictorian Bui Huu Nghia. On 25/01/1994, Ministry of Culture and Sports issued Decision No. 152-QD/BT to recognize Valedictorian Bui Huu Nghia Grave as the national historical relic. Long Quang Pagoda Art Relic (Long Quang Co Tu)
Located in Binh Chanh, Long Hoa
Ward, Binh Thuy District , Can Tho City. Long Quang Co Tu was built in 1825 by the Monk Vo Van Quyen as a small temple at the first time. After many times of restoration and name changing, in 1966, the pagoda was newly built and the name of Long Quang Co Tu has been kept until now. Pagoda was accommodation and contact place of many officers in the inner city and the suburban of Can Tho City in two resistance was for the independence of the nation. Especially, the pagoda still keeps many statues made of valuable wood until today, in which the most typical ones are 18 La Han Statues. This is the meticulous, fine wood carving works with high art and religious value. On 21/06/1993, Ministry of Culture and Sports issued Decision No. 774-QD/BT to recognize Long Quang Co Tu as the national historical relic.
