1. I learned that fraction represents a part of a whole. It is important because they tell you what
portion of a whole you need, have, or want. It is also used in baking to tell how much of an
ingredient to use. This is used in telling time; each minute is a fraction of the hour.

2. I understand that fractions, decimals and percentage are essential in real-life situations. It will
be of much help to us because it uses more precise numbers which are very essential in our
everyday living.
Answer the following. Write your answers in a clean sheet of paper.

1. A motorcycle was sold for P80,000. If the salesperson’s commission was 7%, find the
amount of the person’s commission.
Formula:
P=B×R
P=80,000 × 0.07

P = P5600
The person’s commission was P5600.

2. A railroad inspector inspects 360 railcars. If 95% passed, how many cars passed the
inspection?
Formula:
P=B×R
P=360 × 0.95

P = 342
342 cars passed the inspection.

3. If the regular price of a picture frame is P25 and the price tag is marked 30% off, find
the sale price.
Formula:
P=B×R
P=P25 × 0.3

P25 – P7.50 = P17.5

P17.5 was the sale price of the

P = P7.50 (discount) picture frame.
4. A quality control inspector found that 1.2% of 2,500 mobile phones inspected were
defective. How many mobile phones inspected were not defective?
Formula:
P=B×R
P=2500 × 0.112

2500 – 30 = 2470

2470 mobile phones were not defective.

P = 30

5. A manufacturer of an anti-inflammatory drug claims that the drug will be effective for
6 hours. An independent testing service determined that the drug was effective for
only 80% of the length of time claimed by the manufacturer. Find the length of time
the drug will be effective as determined by the testing service.
Formula:
P=B×R
P=6 × 0.8

P = 4.8
As determined by the testing service, the drug will be effective for 4.8 hours or 4
hours and 48 minutes.

Reflection

1. I understand that fraction is important in my daily living just like when I ate my favorite pizza; I
ate it portion by portion of the whole. When I bake cakes, it will tell how much ingredient to use.
Understanding fractions is a necessary skill for students or individual to have as they get older .

2. I realize that understanding and studying fractions really helps in our daily life specifically in
recipes and can help to measure out the required quantities.
