Risb Introduction

The Incomplete Sentences Blank is a standardized test developed in 1950 by J.B. Rotter and J.E. Raferty to measure psychological imbalance using incomplete sentences. It consists of 40 stems that test-takers complete, which are then rated on a scale of 0 to 6 by comparing them to standard manuals and measuring cumulative scores. The test comes in school, college, and adult forms and can be administered individually or in a group, taking approximately 20 minutes to complete without lengthy instructions. It was revised from a form used by Rotter and Willermann in the armed forces, amending an earlier method used by other researchers.

Introduction

The Incomplete Sentences Blank is an attempt to standardize the method of completion

of the sentence for use at the college level. The subject is completed by 40 "stems" These

completions are then rated by comparing them to standard items in empirically derived men's and

women's score manuals, and by assigning a scale of 0 to 6 to each answer. The cumulative score

is the index of the imbalance. It comes in three forms, i.e., school form, college form, adult form

for various age groups, and consists of 40 incomplete sentences which must be completed as

soon as possible but the usual time taken is approximately 20 minutes. The test can be conducted

either individually or in a group setting. It doesn't have a lengthy series of instructions, and it can

be quickly figured out for a population at large.
