Ecological/Environmental Factors

The company is contributing to environmental damages. Volume of packaging, traffic-

related emissions, and environmentally dangerous products have been the main areas
of their criticism.
 However, it should be mentioned that Amazon aims to make 50% of its
shipments zero carbon (Shipment Zero) by 2030 and net zero carbon across its
businesses by 2040.
→ Amazon has also invested a lot in CSR and  sustainability. It has  invested  in
sustainable packaging, waste reduction, and renewable energy.
Apart from that  it has also invested in engaging the community in sustainability
projects. Renewable energy is a key focus area at Amazon. It has made major
investments in this area to acquire complete freedom from dependence on non-
renewable energy in the long term.
 There is a rising interest in the environmental programs
 There is a rising emphasis on the sustainability of the business
 Increase in the popularity of a low- carbon lifestyle
Legal Factors
In Amazon’s case, the following legal external factors are significant:
Rising product regulation
Changing import and export regulations
Rising environmental protection regulations on businesses
-Amazon must abide by rules and regulations of each country in which it operates.
Otherwise, it must face lawsuits and fines.
 For instance, a French court has ruled that Amazon must stop selling ‘non-
essential’ items or face a fine of €1m a day until it can come up with a safety
plan to protect the health of its employees (Hern, 2020). It was fined $134,523
in the USA for selling products or services to people in sanctioned countries.
Likewise, it was fined £55,000 by the UK Competition and Markets Authority
(CMA) over late documents in Deliveroo probe.
Amazon has a separate legal team to oversee the legal issues and challenges.
 There is an opportunity of rising product regulation
 Changing of the import and the export regulations
 There is an increase in rising environmental protection regulation on business
