Strip Foundation

Strip foundation is used to support load-bearing walls or lines of closely spaced columns. It is constructed from concrete with a typical mix ratio of 1:2:4. There are three types of strip foundation: ordinary, which is suitable for gravel soils; wide, used for low bearing capacity soils like soft clay; and deep, for soils like silty clay that expand or shrink with moisture content. Strip foundation provides load support for walls or columns and satisfies building by-law requirements.

Strip Foundation

Strip foundation is used to support a line of loads, either due to load-bearing wall, or if a
line of columns need supporting where column positions are so close that individual pad
foundations would be inappropriate.

Strip foundation is constructed from concrete with typical mix ratio of 1:2:4. Strip
foundation can be divided into three types:

a) Ordinary strip foundation

b) Wide strip foundation
c) Deep strip foundation

Types of strip foundation Usage

Ordinary strip foundation Suitable for high load bearing capacity and
non-cohesive soil such as gravel.
Wide strip foundation Suitable for low load bearing capacity soil.
Examples are soft clay and filled area.
Deep strip foundation Used on silty clay or peat soil that tends to
expand or shrink depending on the
moisture content.
