NEW TECHNOLOGY WHICH MIGHT INFLUENCE, ALSO IN THE NEXT FUTURE,
THE DEVELOPMENTS OF SCIENCE AND THE PROGRESS IN ENGINEERING
PRACTICE.

THE TECHNOLOGY OF ACTIVE MATERIALS AND OF INTELLIGENT (SMART)


STRUCTURES AIMS AT INCORPORATING INTELLIGENCE AND LIFE
FEATURES INTO THE MICROSTRUCTURE OF THE MATERIAL SYSTEM TO
REDUCE MASS AND ENERGY AND PRODUCE ADAPTIVE FUNCTIONALITY.

ABSORBER THAT CONVERTS MECHANICAL VIBRATION ENERGY INTO
ELECTRICAL ENERGY. IT IS MADE OF PIEZOELECTRIC CERAMICS AND
ELECTRONIC CONTROL CIRCUITRY (THE "BRAIN"). THE PIEZOELECTRICS
DETECT UNWANTED MECHANICAL ENERGY FROM VIBRATION AND SHOCK AND
