FUTURE CONDITIONALS
If it doesn't rain, we'll go to the park.

Use with: the first conditional.

Really
Interesting!
1.3 FIRST CONDITIONAL

The First Conditional

The first conditional has the present simple after 'if', then the future simple in the other clause:

• if + present simple, ... will + infinitive

It's used to talk about things which might happen in the future. Of course, we can't know what
will happen in the future, but this describes possible things, which could easily come true.

• If it rains, I won't go to the park.

• If I study today, I'll go to the party tonight.
• If I have enough money, I'll buy some new shoes.
• She'll be late if the train is delayed.
• She'll miss the bus if she doesn't leave soon.
• If I see her, I'll tell her.

First vs. Zero Conditional:

The first conditional describes a particular situation, whereas the zero conditional describes what
happens in general.

For example (zero conditional): if you sit in the sun, you get burned (here I'm talking about every
time a person sits in the sun - the burning is a natural consequence of the sitting)

But (first conditional): if you sit in the sun, you'll get burned (here I'm talking about what will
happen today, another day might be different)

2 Procedimental

2.2 Now read the next paragraph about future for plans, intentions and predictions. Then,
answer the questions.
Reading: The world in 2050
Read the texts and do the exewises
Samuel, 27
I think a lot of things will change in 2050. India
will overtake China as the firsl largest
economy in the world, but the country wiTT
have many problems with its demographics.
The world will also have a lot of problems with
the pollution and the climate changing. We
will need to find other resources, because
there will be more than nine biT|ion people on
Earth in 2050. We will also need to build spaceships to travel to the Moon and
1o Mars, because we will have to take resources from these places.

Lea, 25
Our world won’t be the same in 2050. We will
improve our technology and everybody will be
able to speak at least five languages. People will
live longer and we won’t have health problems,
because we will improve our knowledge on
medicine. We will also 1ive in peace and the
different countries won't have nuclear weapons
anymore. We will also have a single world
government as we already have the //N£ {/nternot‹ono/ lvtonetary Fund. I think
2050 wilt be a great year for mankind!

Steven, 29
I hope that the world countries will be able to
overcome the different issues in 2050. We
will live in peace and won’t have any wars
anymore. We will be able to explore the
space and to find other habitable planets. We
will perhaps find other intelligent Beings on
other planets in 2050.
He think like India will overtake china as the first
largest economy in te world. The world will have a
lot of problems with the pollution and the climate
changing. We will need to find other recourses, and
we Will to build spaceships to travel the moon and
mars for we will have to take resources from these
places
She think like everybody will be able to speak at least
five languages Thanks to our technological advances,
people live longer and they won’t have health
problems, we won’t have a nuclear weapons a we will
also have a single world government.

He hope that the world countries Will be able to

overcome the different issues, the world will live in
peace, he think we Will be able to explore the
space, find other habitable planets, he think we Will
perhaps find other intelligent beings on other
planets.

I would like that in the 2050 we will be more honest people, people who have more clarity in their life and can end
their hate cycles. I hope the people will have more introspection in her lifes so they can act with better intetions. In
the 2050 our technology will advance exponentially, we will contact with other beings of the universe and the
robots, they Will live in all sites. By then we will transform into machines.
