Re: SAMS Positive Case COVID-19 & SAHS Update
April 9, 2021

Good evening,

I’m writing to provide you with an update on SAHS as well as a positive case we were informed
of today at SAMS.

SAHS: Late last night we were made aware of another positive student at SAHS. This second
positive case impacted additional staff and students who were asked today to quarantine. As a
result of these last two positive cases, we have asked 10 staff and 95 students to quarantine.

Today the high school worked remotely per their red plan schedule. Our intention is to return to
in-person instruction on Monday following our current hybrid schedule. Because of the high
number of impacted staff (school and non-school exposures), there will be challenges staffing
the school on Monday. We be working over the weekend on staffing and will make a final
determination on Sunday. We will reach out to our SAHS parents and students on Sunday
afternoon via text, phone, and email.

SAMS: Today we were informed that a SAMS student tested positive for COVID-19. District
nursing and administrative staff contacted Maine CDC and determined that 13 staff and 14
students will need to quarantine as a result of this exposure.

As you can see from the cases above, the impacts to schools from these recent cases of
COVID-19 are significant. Our MSAD 54 staff have been truly amazing in working to cover
classes and make the most of some pretty tough situations. We will continue to do our best to
keep our schools open. We ask for everyone to continue to follow the guidelines and stay home
when sick or exhibiting any symptoms (see MSAD54 Screening Tool).

We will reach back out Sunday afternoon to provide an update.

Thank you for your continued support.
