activity: techniques to understand the message given in the audio they listen to.
Introduction In this unit, you are expected to identify main ideas and give details on specific information you identify
in the audio you are exposed to.
III. ACTIVITIES STUDENTS HAVE TO DEVELOP
Activities Important information to consider:
Before listening to the audio, you have to get prepared by using different types of techniques
such as the following ones:

1. Background information:
Read as much information about the topic as you can and identify how much you
know about this.
2. Understanding the message:
Understand the instructions given and the content of the exercises. Know about what
it is that you are expected to answer.
3. Guess by context or predict what specific information you may have to answer.

I.LISTEN FOR MAIN IDEAS


Listen to people talking about jobs. While you listen to it, take notes and paraphrase
what you hear. (2pts each, total 10pts.)

1.What is the first thing people have to say?


The first thing to do is to introduce yourself.
2.What is the last thing the presenters have to say?
The last thing they should say is: what they are currently working on and why they want to
change careers.
3.How does Mike have to be in terms of personality?
Mike likes to be outdoors, good with your hands, like being your own boss.
4.What is Sarah good at?
Sarah is good at shopping and with money.
5.What is the reason why Sarah wants to do something different?
She is on her feet a lot and it is exhausting. She just wants to get the job done and then go
home to rest.
