The document discusses physical education (PE) competencies that are considered essential and non-essential for the elementary grades. It analyzes why some competencies are retained as most essential and categorized in the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC). These competencies embody characteristics of essential learning like being aligned with frameworks and applicable to real life. Competencies not in the MELC are considered non-essential as they are too specific, more appropriate for other grade levels, or subsumed under other competencies.

Analysis:

Why are these MELC competencies retained and categorized as most essential and why the

considered not essential being left out of the MELC?

The aforementioned MELC competencies in PE subject are retained and categorized as most

essential because they embody the characteristics of an essential learning competencies which

are aligned with national or local frameworks, connects the content to higher concepts across

content areas, applicable to real-life situations, they are important not just in school, and they

would not be expected for most students to learn this in settings other than through formal

education. On the other hand, there are competencies in PE subject that are being left out of the

MELC because they are considered as not essential as they are too specific, deemed appropriate

to be introduced in an earlier quarter/grade level or moved to a later quarter/grade level, they are

recurring, and subsumed in another learning competencies.
