Short assessment note (1-3 pages each) for each of the four tasks.
Task I:
Your team started by assessing the boiler and steam network. You gathered the following
information:
• The boiler operates at a pressure of 7 bar.
• The AF ratio is adjusted manually.
1
• The steam network is insulated, except at certain points where fittings and valves are
present.
• No visible steam leaks.
• The exhaust gas temperature is 350°C.
• The O2 percentage in the exhaust was found to be 8%.
• Maintenance is not regular.
• Blowdown is directly connected to the sewer.
• The system contains several steam traps.
• A condensate return system is used.
• The boiler consumed 21,000 GJ of natural gas in 2020 (price of natural gas is JD 6.5/GJ).
Prepare a short note (to be incorporated in the audit report which your team leader will compile)
to provide your assessment of the boiler and steam system. Your contribution should include the
following:
1- Estimation of current boiler efficiency.
2- Measures that can be taken to improve the boiler efficiency.
3- Estimation of expected improved efficiency and resulting savings.
4- Description and discussion of all other energy saving measures that can be implemented.
5- List of options for heat recovery options and potential uses.
Task II:
A colleague of yours collected daily measurements of the peak power during peak hours (as
defined by EMRC), and the average power factor during the month of December, and produced
the following graphs. The monthly average peak power during peak hours was calculated and
found to be 344 kW. The monthly average power factor was calculated and found to be 89%.

You were asked to work on the data to identify potential saving opportunities. One of them, was
to limit the peak power to 250 kW during the peak hours in this facility for the entire month, the
other was to improve the power factor to 96%.
Write a short note (to be incorporated in the audit report which your team leader will compile)
which should include:
1. An estimate the savings resulting from both measures.
2. The sizing of the required power factor correction unit, taking into consideration that the
average power is 750 kW.
3. Discussion of power quality aspects that need to be considered before installing the
power factor correction unit.
Task III:
You were asked to evaluate the efficiency of a 7.5 kW motor that operates on a constant load.
You took the attached photo of the motor nameplate and then you collected the following
measurements: Current = 10 A, power factor = 0.81, speed = 1465 rpm. The motors runs daily on
an average of 14 hours.
Prepare a short motor assessment note which includes:
• The measurements you took, and the equipment you used to obtain such measurements
• Calculation of the current motor efficiency
• Energy saving measure(s) you would recommend, with a financial feasibility analysis

Task IV:
During the initial walkthrough, you came across the compressor and the compressed air network
used to operate a number of pneumatic systems. The following observations were collected:
• The compressor is relatively old.
• The compressor room was very hot.
• The compressor room was relatively close to the pneumatic systems.
• The pressure at the compressor exit was 8 bar.
• The pressure at the pneumatic systems was 6.5 bar.
• The compressor cycles on/off every 40-50 seconds.
Prepare a short high-level recommendation note on actions that can be taken immediately, and
measurements you would plan to evaluate potential energy saving opportunities.
