Activity 7
1. What is intersubjectivity?

It refers to the shared awareness and understanding among persons which is made
possible by the awareness of the self and the other. It is the condition of man, a
subject, among other men, who are also subjects. Simply, intersubjectivity is "The
sharing of subjective states by two or more individuals." (Scheff 2006).
Intersubjectivity is commonly used to refer to an agreement. When two or more
individual agree on something, there is intersubjectivity. Another, intersubjectivity
can be also used to refer to common-sense. Individuals sharing common-sense
means sharing the meaning and definition of something, and therefore there is
intersubjectivity as they both know and agree with something. Lastly,
intersubjectivity can be used to refer to shared meaning, which is similar to
common sense and agreement.

In conclusion, intersubjectivity is something that two or more individuals share with


each other. It helps in understanding each other better and in shaping ideas.
Simply, intersubjectivity emphasizes mental connectivity.

2. Differentiate the social from interhuman.

Social refers to the life of a group bound together by common grounds, experiences
and reactions. While interhuman is defined to refer to the life between and among
person and interpersonal, a life of dialogue.

Simply, social is used to refer to groups and or organizations while interhuman is


used to refer to an occurrence existing between individuals called, dialogue or the
deep and genuine connectivity or relationship between persons.

3. Differentiate I-It from I-Thou relationship.

I-It relationship refers to the world of experience and sensation where there are
objects, which is the people, things and other to be used and experienced. It is the
relationship with oneself, a monologue. While I-Thou refers to the world of
encounters and relationships where there are persons. It is a dialogue.

In conclusion, the difference between the two is that the I-It relationship is used for
oneself or occurs within oneself, thus it is a monologue and the other, I-Thou
relationship is used for two or more individuals and is capable to make encounters
and relationships. In simpler explanation, I-It is for oneself and I-Thou is for two or
more individuals.

4. What is a dialouge?

Dialogue is a deep and genuine relationship between persons. Which happens when
two persons truly acknowledge each other's presence and treat each other as
equals. It is the connectivity between and among humans.

5.What are the obstacles to authentic dialogue?

First, seeming. Deliberately playing up or hiding aspects of yourself to appear


desirable or more impressive. Simply, it is having facade to hide oneself and be
someone that is perceived that is real but not really. Second, speechifying. It refers
to one's talking past another. It is hearing without listening to what one says. In
other meaning, it is a speech that is done in a boring and annoying way. Lastly,
imposition. It is telling the other how he or she should, act, behave and respond to
things. It constitutes to holding one's own opinion, values, attitudes and oneself
without regard for those of another. Simply, imposition is the action or process of
imposing something or of being imposed.

6. How do people address loneliness?

Through escapism or by seeking distraction and relief. It is done through the use of
drugs, rituals, sex, smoking and alcohol. Another way is through conformity with
groups such as joining a fraternity, organization, club and any group. Lastly,
creative and productive work or activity. Which is done through planning, producing
and seeing the result of a hobby, pastime or passion. It can be painting, music and
anything that is creative and even sports can be included.
7. What are the essential characteristics of love?

First, love is historical, where the other is a concrete particular person with his/her
own being history. Second, love is total, because persons are indivisible, undivided
or separated. Third, love is eternal because love is not given only for a limited
period of time. Lastly, love is sacred, because in love, persons are valuable in
themselves.
