PMA-12-4-48-0 Self-Priming Unit1

The document describes a self-priming system for a pump. The system uses an air ejector and solenoid valve to prime the pump when activated. It explains that Novenco will supply the air ejector system, but it is the yard's responsibility to install it according to the diagram and specifications. It also provides instructions for starting up the system and setting the timer for it to switch from the air ejector to pump operation.

TANK

The pump used in Novenco Hi-pres Local Protection System is a non-self-priming centrifugal
pump.
When Novenco Hi-pres pump unit is placed above the F.W tank, the pump is equipped with a
self-priming unit.
The maximum suction height for the pump can be seen in the pump description (NPSH).
Installation
Novenco will supply a complete air ejector system (incl. specifications). It’s yards responsibility
to connect the air ejector system according to the general diagram and the specifications on the
air ejector.
The air ejector is to be firmly mounted on a stable surface and the cable to the solenoid valve is
to fulfil the demands required by class.
All pipes are as minimum made of hot dip galvanized steel or stainless steel according to class
requirements.
The exhaust (outlet) on the air ejector can be directed to the bilge.
Start-up
When the system is activated the solenoid valve opens and the air ejector operates. After a few
seconds the pump starts and the air ejector system is automatically stopped.
Time setting
First time the system is tested the timer is to be set in the Motor switchboard.
Observe the time difference from the system is activated, to when water is being discharged
from the exhaust (outlet) on the air ejector.
Calculation on the time setting: π
Time = 4 x D² x H
Pipe dimension = D = DN40 70 l/min
Height from Pump to FW tank = H
