TECHNOLOGY

Matt Mullenweg once said “ Technology is at it’s best when it brings people together ”
Good morning everyone, I’m Ramya, and today I’ll be speaking on the topic – “ does technology help
connect people I  personally think it does, I mean, of course, it cannot replicate the embrace of a
loved one, but think of it as a line, where one end is reality and the other end is virtual. What we need
to do is to draw a line perpendicular to that. We need to learn how to separate those two worlds.

If a beloved person of yours lives far away from you and you have the chance to meet them, you will
take it. But what about the other times when you long to talk to them and they are too far out of reach?
That’s when technology comes into play. Via calls, video calls, and texts, you can communicate with
them without a hassle.

Previously we used letters and postcards to communicate, and as romantic as that sounds, it just
takes too long to reach the receiver. But now you can literally convey a message in a click.

Social media isn’t responsible for the woes of the human condition, it makes it easier than ever to stay
connected no matter how far we go. There is a misconception that technology ruins the real
connections we have with people, but it’s actually quite the opposite because when we find a real
connection now, it is valuable to us and we try to hold on to that connection, and technology actually
helps us do that.

As a futurist, I’m always interested in emerging outcomes and consequences, so a greater connection
amongst humans is a positive thing, especially for friends and families. It’s increasingly important that
no one be isolated because they can’t afford the technology.
The other big outcome from technology is the way it makes us all more mobile. That’s both a physical
and a virtual consequence—we can go almost anywhere, see or participate in almost anything. This
capability gives us both freedom and power.

I would like to conclude by saying that technology is a blessing, not a curse. It’s an advantage, not a
scrouge. It’s a gift, not a venom.
But one should know how to use it appropriately
