Josh Henriques is a 18 year old violinist and violist from Mumbai presently
studying with Gulzara Shakir. He picked up the Violin at the age of 8 and
thereafter Viola. He has played both instruments in the Bombay Chamber
Orchestra and has also performed as a guest musician in the Goa String
Orchestra, Bangalore City Chamber Orchestra and in the much acclaimed
South Asian Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed in numerous
orchestral and chamber music events at the Con Brio Music Festival, Mumbai
and the Ketevan Music Festival in Goa. He was awarded the LTCL Diploma in
Violin Performance with Distinction at the age of 16 in the year 2018. He was
awarded two awards in the previous year for securing the highest marks at the
Mumbai Centre for the ATCL exam in Viola Performance. He was also
awarded the DipABRSM in Violin Performance at the age of 15. In the year
2016 he was selected to perform at the NCPA Budding Brigade Concert Series
and at the NCPA Young Talent in 2018. He’s deeply interested in music
composition and was awarded the Kathleen Taylorsmith Award for having
secured the highest marks at the Mumbai Centre for the Grade 8 Theory exam
in 2015. He was offered a full scholarship by the Wells Cathedral School, UK to
attend the 3rd International Music Summer School at Wells,UK in 2016 where
he attended violin masterclasses with Prof.Matthew Souter. He is currently
pursuing a Bachelor in Science degree majoring in Mathematics at Jai Hind
College, Mumbai and loves to play violin and is very passionate about it.
