What Can Music Make You Do?

I. Introduction to music.

Ok! First off I wanna start by saying music is everywhere. At your house, at school, when you’re

driving, and even in nature music can be found. Music is a very important part of everyday life whether

some people like it or not. As a musician myself I can state that although most artists have different

reasons as to why they make music and what they want people to feel when they listen to it, most artists

try to make something they feel they’re listeners will like and relate to. Since it's an entertainment

business we have made sure their music is enjoyable, but since we are our own person we usually just

make something that we enjoy ourselves and if you like it you like it. There are multiple genres of music

and some music artists don't stick to one (like me). There is always a mixture so some of the genres are:

hip-hop, rock, pop, jazz, bule, country, folk, and classical music just to name a few. With that being said

that means that most people have preferences and because of these preferences somethings I emphasize

sometimes you can tell a person's personality by the music they listen to. But some people also just like

what they like. If I haven't told you already or you haven't noticed, I'm a music arctic as in I make some

form of music whether it's rapping/singing or being a producer(which is basically making beats and

working on the track and stuff along those lines) and I won't really get into that much because I don't want

you guys to think I'm up here to just to promote. I won't be giving out my stage name but if you're

interested in the music I make feel free to ask me after this or after this class. Being influenced by
different types of things and people can also help decide how you perceive music. From an article by Nick

Collins it states that “Classical musicians rated instrumental teachers, parents, musical events and

professional colleagues as the most important musical influences, while non-classical musicians reported

that their most important influences were well-known performers and significant musical events.” So

musical influence can happen through people to make you do something, but what about just mood? Well

from an article made by Qi Meng this states that “Studies have shown that when people listen to music,

their emotions fluctuate, and the effect is to change their behavior (Orr et al., 1998). Studies have shown

that different languages, tempos, tones, and sound levels of music can cause different effects on emotions,

mental activities, and physical reactions.” You ever see videos of people vibing to music and then they

pretend their phones are some guns or something that's a great example. I'm not a good example for this.

I'm a little different... just a little, I used an apple and I'm not talking about the phone but that's besides the

point. ““Music and the Brain” explores how music impacts brain function and human behavior, including

by reducing stress, pain and symptoms of depression as well as improving cognitive and motor skills,

spatial-temporal learning and neurogenesis, which is the brain's ability to produce neurons.” (Google) this

means that music has an effect on our brain which then again explains why music can also affect our

mood at the time and how it is also passed on. I read somewhere that music is primal and it has a natural

desire to be in our lives. Birds singing and even the very loud cars driving past you, playing their music

like it's a party everywhere they go have an effect on your brain. So what do you think music can make

You do?

THANK YOU!
