Assignment Assignment 1 – Business Analytics Report/Visualization
using Tableau
Due Date April 16, 2021 @ 11.59 P.M

Assume that you are hired as a Data Analytics professional to perform an analysis based on
historical data. You are given full autonomy over your analysis. The key objective is to identify
several business issues and analyze them from the descriptive perspective (what happened?), the
predictive perspective (what will happen? why?), and (ideally) the prescriptive perspective (what
should we do?).

Dataset
Pick a dataset based on your own interest. You can find a dataset at Google Dataset Search, Open
Data or Kaggle. Make sure the selected dataset is suitable for analysis and has a non-trivial number
of data points (e.g., ≥500).

Analysis
• The following items must be included in the presentation.
• What is the data?
• What is the data trying to say?
• What are we hoping others will see from this data?
• Key business issues that will be answered from the analysis using Tableau.
• Propose business benefits and recommendation based on your analysis.
• Perform your analysis using the following features in Tableau. (Note: It is highly
recommended but not mandatory to use all the options listed below for your analysis)
• Table Calculations - Create an analysis showing the following.
▪ Running total
▪ Difference
▪ Percent difference
▪ Percent of total
▪ Rank
▪ Percentile
▪ Moving average
• Calculated fields for any of the variables from the dataset.
• Data analysis using the following charts.
▪ Stacked Bar charts
▪ Box Plots
▪ Scatter plot
▪ Histogram
▪ Line Chart
▪ Simple map based on the location data (optional)
• Charts must also be labeled & colored. Include tooltips where required.

• Create charts with Trend Lines and Forecasting.


• Create dashboards & link sheets where required.
• Create a story with the issues and recommendations highlighted.

Submission Instructions
• You must submit the presentation as an electronic copy.
• You must also submit the Tableau (twbx file only) used for analysis. The file must include
the following.
o All charts used for analysis.
o Dashboard
o story
• Your document must be uploaded and submitted to blackboard by the due date and time
provided. You only need one submission per group.
